Orange Coast College (OCC) is seeking equity-minded individuals for a classified employee role as a College & Community Services Supervisor as part of the Administrative Services Wing, under the Vice President of Administrative Services.

THE DEPARTMENT: College & Community Services Department
Provides planning, organization, and implementation of activities and enterprise services sponsored by the college, including but not limited to, Swap Meet Operations, facility rentals, reprographics, mail room, and entrepreneurial-oriented services. This position supervises a staff of 18 classified employees and professional experts. The College and Community Services Supervisor is a first-line working supervisory position over enterprise and entrepreneurial services and events that are auxiliary to the core functions of the college. The Supervisor will assemble teams of full-and-part-time staff that can deliver routine customer services, offering revenue to the college that benefits students and the community. The College and Community Services Supervisor requires training in and the ability to work with risk services, security, and first responders to ensure the safety of campus visitors due to the nature of the position and performance of these duties during weekend, evening, and/or extended hours of operation when permanent staff and students are not ordinarily present. The position will also have limited interactions with the Recycling Center as the campus liaison to the outside entity. This position is critical as it would oversee the weekend operations and would respond to campus emergencies, closures, or evacuations on the weekends. ABOUT THE DISTRICT

Ensures smooth operations and timely response to college personnel and the community during weekend and evening operations and events.
Distinguishing Career Features
The College and Community Services Supervisor is a first-line working supervisory position over enterprise and entrepreneurial services and events that are auxiliary to the core functions of the college. The Supervisor will assemble teams of full-and-part-time staff that can deliver routine customer services, offering revenue to the college that benefits students and the community. The College and Community Services Supervisor requires training in and the ability to work with risk services, security, and first responders to ensure the safety of campus visitors due to the nature of the position and performance of these duties during weekend, evening, and/or extended hours of operation when permanent staff and students are not ordinarily present.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Specific duties may vary among departments, divisions, and jobs. Incumbents typically perform a substantial portion or all of the following types of duties, as assigned:
- Assists in planning, developing, organizing, and supervising community service and enterprise functions of the college. Supervises staff who are supporting the swap meet.
- Participates in the oversight of weekend and evening activities with specific attention to the swap meet.
- Participates in the interviewing and hiring of permanent, short-term, and part-time hourly staff. Provides training, direction, and performance appraisal. Works with internal resources such as risk services and public safety to provide or give access to training.
- Assists with community education services by coordinating classrooms and other venues. Responds to requests for facility use by assessing the nature of services, compatibility with the college's policies, and the fees and insurances required of the requester.
- Conducts initial screening of potential swap meet vendors for suitability of merchandise and financial responsibility.
- Responds to calls for service involving students, staff, swap meet vendors, and campus visitors. Determines nature and scope and makes timely referrals/notifications to administrative, instructional, student, and health services, maintenance, and/or emergency
service personnel. - Collaborates with the Director of College and Community Support, Director of Campus Security, and others to respond to urgent situations during weekend hours (e.g., disasters), including but not limited to efforts to continue operations or campus closures and evacuations.
- Interfaces with the State Board of Equalization, County Health Department, County Agricultural Department, City Business License Department, and City of Costa Mesa Police Department to ensure the swap meet is compliant with appropriate ordinances.
- Recommends and implements techniques to improve department policies and practices, increase efficiency, take advantage of opportunities, and maintain state-of-the-art practices, keeping abreast of current trends and practices in the field.
- Ensures smooth operations and provides necessary, appropriate, and timely response to college personnel and the community during weekend and evening operations and events.
- Coordinates and performs various departmental and business office activities, including preparing and processing purchase orders, tracking expenditures, attending and participating in committees and meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned that support the objective of the position.

Knowledge and Skills
- The position requires working knowledge of the principles and practices of setting up and administering auxiliary business support functions and services.
- Requires working knowledge of the policies, rules, and procedures associated with the use and scope of enterprise services allowed on a California Community College campus.
- Requires working knowledge of the best and safe practices, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations related to occupational safety and health, accessibility of facilities, and use of campus facilities.
- Requires basic knowledge of modern supervisory practice,s including setting work standards, organizing work, training, time management, and performance management.
- Requires knowledge of budgetary methods and procedures and techniques used in analyzing revenues and expenses.
- Requires sufficient knowledge of computer- aided programs that optimize scheduling of events and common office productivity applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, and data entry screens.
- Requires sufficient English language and writing skills to prepare policies, procedures, instructional materials, and reports.
- Requires sufficient human relation skills to outreach to internal and external customers, convey policies and procedures to others, train staff, and conduct business.

- Requires the ability to explain and enforce policies and procedures with tact and firmness to employees and the public.
- Requires the ability to manage multiple competing and/or changing priorities and exercise independent judgment and determine reasonable courses of action, including making immediate decisions in emergency situations. Requires the ability to work weekends.

Education and Experience
- The position typically requires an Associate's degree in an applicable discipline and three (3) years of progressive experience staging events or supervising revenue-generating services.
- Or, any combination of education and experience that would meet the required equivalent qualifications for the position.

(ON-CAMPUS - In-person position) This is a temporary, special-funded, full-time (40 hours per week), 12-month-per-year classified management position. The District reserves the right to extend, modify, or eliminate this position based upon available funds. The normal hours of work will be Thursday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Friday 8:00 am to 12:00 pm, Saturday 6:00 am to 4:30 pm, Sunday 6:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with the flexibility to occasionally work extended hours and/or weekends, if necessary, to meet the department's needs. The effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor. The District provides medical, dental, and vision insurance for the employee and eligible dependents, and life insurance for the employee.
(Salary Schedule: DG-6)
