Job Description

Brightspeed is searching for a Planning Engineer to join our team! As a Planning Engineer, your primary role will be as a capacity manager monitoring the capacity/utilization of our voice, data, transport and access networks. The Planning Engineer in this capacity management function will notify the appropriate planner to trigger a project based on the high utilization identified. Monitoring our network with timely augments is crucial to providing a valued customer experience.

Preferred candidates should be experienced with the following tools including: TIRKS, NMA/DB, the full suite of Microsoft Office products, and general data management and presentation skills. General knowledge of the telecommunication network is critical. In this role you will interact with internal customers, vendors, suppliers and maintain open conversation with engineering and all company departments to provide a high-quality platform for Brightspeed customers.

As Planning Engineer in a capacity manager role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring the bandwidth and port utilization of Brightspeed's access, voice, data, and transport network elements.
  • Share results with planners for project issuance and confirm actual projects were issued.
  • Track projects for capacity augments to completion.
  • Provide cost data based on projected bandwidth needs to support capital planning and budgeting.
  • Coordinate IT development of systems and tools to provide needed data for capacity managers.
  • Respond to data requests for network element inquiries on type, quantity, ports and bandwidth.
  • Resolving interoperability problems to obtain operations across all platforms including e-mail, files transfer, multimedia, teleconferencing and the like
Qualifications

WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE:

  • Associate degree or equivalent education and relevant experience
  • 5 to 8 years plus related experience in telecommunications, engineering, or network planning or equivalent
  • Knowledgeable and skilled in planning /engineeringandreading construction drawings / prints
  • Understanding of switch, access, transport, and data technologies and protocols, along with layer 2 routing through the network.
  • Knowledgeable and able to work in appropriate systems and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work with Planning, Operations, Labs, all internal customers, and assist with forecasting budgets
  • Ability to maintain positive interaction between all governing authorities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage small to medium sized projects with cross functional and vendor interaction.
