GENERAL FUNCTION

The Director, Medical Science Liaison (MSL) provides strategic and operational leadership for the MSL organization while maintaining direct field responsibility. This role builds high-impact scientific partnerships with Medical Experts and Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) in Ophthalmology and Optometry and ensures effective day-to-day execution, performance, and development of the MSL team.

Additionally, the Director leads the identification of medical education gaps across the eyecare community and directs the development of medical education initiatives in alignment with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Medical Affairs (MA) leadership. The Director connects field insights with medical strategy and cross-functional execution to support the appropriate adoption and use of EssilorLuxottica products.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Lead and manage day-to-day execution and performance of the MSL team, setting objectives, ensuring compliance, and driving high-quality scientific exchange.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, onboarding, and ongoing professional development to MSLs.
  • Maintain responsibility for a defined geographic region, serving as a senior scientific and clinical resource.
  • Develop and execute MSL engagement plans and regional strategies focused on priority accounts and insight-driven interactions.
  • Build and sustain peer-to-peer relationships with key eyecare experts and KOLs in Ophthalmology and Optometry.
  • Deliver accurate, balanced, and non-promotional scientific and clinical information to healthcare professionals.
  • Gather, synthesize, and communicate field insights related to clinical practice, product use, and emerging trends to internal stakeholders.
  • Identify and prioritize medical education gaps and partner with Medical Affairs Lead to define strategy and translate gaps into targeted initiatives.
  • Direct the development and deployment of compliant, scientifically rigorous medical education programs and materials.
  • Serve as a cross-functional scientific expert, supporting internal teams and collaborating with HCPs on studies, publications, congresses, advisory boards, and training.
  • Ensure thorough documentation and adherence to all regulatory, ethical, and compliance standards.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, pharmacy, or other medically related discipline required
  • 10+ years of medical, optical, or comparable experience, including field-based roles
  • Prior experience leading or coaching teams preferred
  • Strong ability to communicate complex scientific and clinical concepts
  • Proven experience engaging HCPs and KOLs in peer-to-peer exchange
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to travel approximately 50-60%


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • OD strongly preferred
  • Experience in Myopia Management or related areas
  • Experience leading medical education initiatives
  • Cross-functional, matrixed organization experience
