Overview

The Project Accountant will work closely with the Accounting Team, Supervisors, Group Managers, and Service Leaders to coordinate efforts to prepare invoices, report project profitability, and ensure contract compliance.



Responsibilities

    Generate invoices accurately, efficiently and in a timely manner for assigned region while adhering to internal and external deadlines.
  • Ensure compliance with contract billing requirements.
  • Reviews, approves, and maintains required documentation for invoices (timesheets/expense reports/sub-consultant invoices, etc.)
  • Analyze project revenue and expenses to ensure accuracy and identify anomalies.
  • Works with project managers monthly to maintain fixed fee project tracking.
  • Report project profitability to Project Managers.
  • Follows up with Project Managers weekly regarding delinquent invoices, and maintains comments on Accounts Receivable Report.
  • Reconciles unbilled/unearned balances.
  • May assist with costing proposals as needed.
  • Maintains familiarity with assigned projects and contracts.
  • Assist in documentation and implementation of project control and billing procedures.
  • Assists with workforce additions and modifications as requested.
  • Presents self within firm and to outside contacts as professional representative of the MBP team with:
  • Dedication and responsiveness to client needs.
  • Confidentiality of Corporate, project and marketing efforts.
  • Emphasis on quality and attention to detail.
  • Provide back-up assistance for other Accounting Team Members as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATION:

Basic understanding of accounting systems (preferably Deltek Vision). Prior experience working within an accounting or finance field which involved having exposure to at least one of the following areas: accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, billing, timesheet administration, processing expense reports, general ledger, or contracts.

KNOWLEDGE:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience that equates to a Bachelor's degree. Comprehensive knowledge of multiple contract types to include: IDIQ, CPFF, FFP and T&M.

Familiarity with government contracting job-cost accounting, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) including the special provisions related to the state and federal contracts. Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Excel is essential).

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Highly detail-oriented and organized in work with the ability to handle multiple projects/priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to meet assigned deadlines and manage time efficiently.
  • Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and analyze problems, exercise independent judgment, recommend and lead effective courses of action.
  • Readily takes responsibility for personal decisions, actions and results.
