Position description

The Graduate Division at UC Riverside seeks a full-time Associate Dean to serve as a key partner to the Vice Provost and Dean of Graduate Education. This role is ideal for a faculty leader who is deeply passionate about graduate education, energized by collaboration, and motivated to elevate the graduate experience and outcomes across UCR.

The Associate Dean will work closely with the Vice Provost/Dean, Academic Senate leadership, International Affairs, college deans and associate deans, department chairs, graduate advisors, graduate program staff, faculty, and campus partners to strengthen and sustain graduate programs across all schools and colleges. As a member of the Graduate Division Senior Leadership Team, the Associate Dean will help shape campus-wide strategy, advance shared priorities, and contribute to an agile, data-informed, and student-centered approach to graduate education.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. The Base Salary range for this position is $80,800 - $232,100.

Core Responsibilities

Strategic leadership and collaboration

* Serve as a close thought partner to the Vice Provost/Dean co-developing priorities, testing ideas, and advancing initiatives that strengthen graduate education, student success, and program excellence.

* Represent Graduate Division in campus committees and working groups as assigned; build productive relationships across colleges and units to accelerate shared goals.

Academic policy, petitions, and complex case management

* Oversee the management of graduate student petitions, appeals, grievances, and academic integrity referrals.

* Support informal conflict resolution and mediation when appropriate, coordinating as needed with VPAR, Title IX, and VCRED on complex cases.

* Provide guidance and leadership in policy implementation, resolution processes, documentation standards, and continuous improvement of protocols.

Graduate student success, mentorship, and admissions consultation

* Provide leadership and supervision of GradSuccess and Academic Preparation and Outreach programs, including retention and mentorship initiatives.

* Increase visibility and engagement with campus partners and senior administration; consult on admissions policy and practices to support access, excellence, and timely degree progress.

Funding, fellowships, and grant development for graduate education

* Support internal fellowship competitions and graduate student funding opportunities; serve as liaison to the Graduate Council's Fellowships and Assistantships Committee.

* Identify, develop, and support the writing and submission of graduate training grants and graduate education program proposals (e.g., NIH/NSF training mechanisms and other extramural or philanthropic opportunities), partnering with faculty, programs, and campus units to strengthen competitiveness and broaden graduate support.

Postdoctoral affairs and professional development

* Serve as Graduate Division liaison for postdoctoral scholars, including programming and services in coordination with the Riverside Postdoctoral Association.

* Advance professional development, mentorship, and retention initiatives aligned with a robust postdoctoral experience and strong academic/career placement outcomes.


Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Faculty rank of Associate or Full professor.

Preferred qualifications

Experience as a member of the Graduate Council and/or as a Graduate Advisor and/or Department Chair is strongly preferred.

Demonstrate appropriate administrative experience and a proven record of academic, and administrative leadership qualities.
