A professional experienced in the planning, design and implementation of Planning and Landscape Architecture projects. Responsible for leading the regional planning practice in business development, project design/delivery, client relations, financial management and staff development. Assists the Business Unit in developing and executing Planning regional strategies.



RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Leads the development of planning concepts for a range of project types, and guides internal teams, consultants and clients towards firmwide project excellence and problem solving.
  • Collaborates with client and/or public to create strategic planning opportunities based on best practices, industry knowledge and extensive professional experience.
  • Incorporates advanced knowledge of regional, national and global planning precedents and best practices to guide clients, projects and teams.
  • Leads all phases of the planning process with a high level of proficiency, project excellence and problem solving while adhering to project, firmwide and client goals.
  • Directs and leads the establishment of planning concepts for range of planning project types.
  • Responsible for meeting or exceeding both the project and financial goals established for the project.

  • Nudges planning dialogue towards innovative and creative concepts, prioritizing health, well-being and equity. Guides project team and client towards clear, elegant project solutions.
  • Projects and strategies expected to contribute to Firmwide project excellence and problem solving.
  • Fully understands the relationship between plan, project and feasibility/constructability.
  • Leads planning best practices and project thinking in projects and with clients.
  • Ensures clarity of planning concepts to serve client. Challenges internal and external assumptions towards firmwide commitment to project excellence.
  • Must possess deep knowledge of entitlement and technical planning issues alongside local agencies and jurisdictional requirements to lead projects to successful outcomes.
  • Inspires and educates with excellent public speaking, providing leadership in a range of professional and public audiences and settings.
  • Leads advanced methodologies of integrated Sustainable project solutions into projects, promotes best practices in sustainable project thinking with clients.
  • Ensures multi-disciplinary teams complete projects, within the scope of work, schedule, and budget, in an organized, timely and consistent way.
  • Manages client relationships and develops strategic positioning to win new clients and initiate and close on business development opportunities.
  • Directs intra-company agreements, contracts and deliverables to ensure HOK standards for project management are met.
  • Finalizes project fee and scope of services during proposal and negotiates project fee in contract development process. Sets strategic direction for pursuit and interview to best position HOK with strong client-needs focused rational.
  • Acts as client relationship liaison, building strategic business development opportunities.
  • Works with a variety of interdisciplinary projects and teams to mentor professional growth throughout the firm.
  • Manages project teams, fosters collaboration, and demonstrates strong and effective communication and direction which inspires high team performance, project ideas, and successful project delivery.


  • Excellent intrapersonal abilities with strong project resolution techniques to guide clients and teams with confidence and skill.
  • Responsible for guiding teams towards HOK's Technical Excellence in Project Delivery methodologies. (note: what is the formal name for this document?)
  • Responsible for fiscal performance and project quality of project teams and regional business unit.



EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:



  • Master's, or Bachelor's, degree in city, regional and/or urban planning, 15+ years' experience; or equivalent in appropriate education and experience required.
  • Minimum of 10 plus years' experience, with at least 5 years within a management/leadership role.
  • Registration with a current license required if offered in your region.
  • LEED AP or GA required within 12 months of employment

Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, education and location. The reasonably expected salary range for this position is $180,000 to $215,000. Other compensation may include a discretionary bonus.
