The salary range for this position takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

At WGU, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their position, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is:

Job Description

The Staff IT Security Analyst is a position of technical expertise and leadership in the security technology function. They will use their knowledge of current security methods and standards to gather operational information and access and analyze tools, systems, and processes in defense of applications, systems, and networks and collaborate with Infrastructure and business teams. They will act as a lead support role for the IT Security team and provide mentorship to lower level analysts. They will also engage in the support of security focused tools and services. In addition, they may be asked to assist with risk assessments, forensics analysis, data collection, user training and other security related tasks.

You will lead complex audit engagements, build trusted advisory relationships, and drive innovation across our audit processes so teams can focus on what matters most: learner success.

What You'll Do

  • Lead multiple IT security audit engagements, including planning, scoping, testing, and reporting.

  • Conduct advanced technical assessments across infrastructure, applications, cloud environments, and DevOps.

  • Translate technical findings into clear business risks and present them to senior leaders.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to IT and business stakeholders, offering practical recommendations and guidance.

  • Mentor junior team members through project execution and skill development.

  • Apply and interpret frameworks including NIST, ISO 27001, COBIT, SOC 2, GLBA, PCI, and FERPA.

  • Recommend improvements to audit methodologies, tools, automation, and processes.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, information security, computer science, information systems, or related field.

  • 9 years of professional IT security experience, including 4 years in internal security auditing.

  • Demonstrated success leading complex audit engagements and influencing positive security outcomes.

  • Strong technical knowledge across infrastructure, applications, and cloud platforms (AWS or Azure).

  • Proficiency with audit management tools, data analytics platforms, and automated testing solutions.

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to convey risks in business terms.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, build relationships, and exercise independent judgment.

Bonus Points

  • Professional certifications such as CISA, CISM, CISSP, CIA, CRISC, or CGEIT.

  • Cloud security certifications (AWS Security, Azure Security).

  • Experience in Big 4 or internal audit consulting.

  • Background in higher education or financial services.

Work Location

This is a full-time, in-office position at WGU's office in Salt Lake City, Utah.
