The expected hiring range for this position is: $124,800.00-$164,200.00.Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such the scope and responsibilities of the position, qualifications of the selected candidate, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs. Duties and Responsibilities: - Design and upgrade analog and digital electronics for superconducting and conventional magnet systems. - Develop magnet measurement and monitoring instrumentation - Design schematics and multi-layer PCB layouts using modern CAD tools - Writing and maintaining low-level software and firmware (C, LabVIEW, VHDL, FPGA/CPLD platforms) - Support quench detection and protection systems - Develop data acquisition systems (VME, DSP-based, FPGA-based platforms) - Troubleshoot and improve existing magnet test stand electronics - Support magnet current control systems via EPICS and local DAQ networks - Provide on-call support including occasional off-hour response - Lead small technical projects and mentor junior staff - Abide by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position. Minimum Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's in an applicable Engineering discipline from an ABET accredited institution with 12+ years of engineering experience, or a Master's or PhD in an applicable Engineering discipline from an ABET accredited institution with 10+ years of engineering experience. Applicable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: - Experience with FPGA/CPLD firmware development (VHDL preferred) - Experience with PCB schematic capture and layout tools (Altium or equivalent) - Experience with data acquisition and embedded systems - Knowledge of superconducting magnet systems or high-current systems preferred - Programming experience in C and/or LabVIEW - Strong troubleshooting and system integration skills - Ability to perform engineering analysis and write technical reports - Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams - Must be available for operational off-hour call-ins and occasional project overtime - Must meet qualification requirements to work in ODH or interlocked areas - Research laboratory environment with deep expertise in grounding and shielding design, low-signal precision measurements, and high-accuracy analog and digital systems. - Hands on experience performing nano-ohm resistance measurements under high-current conditions in superconducting (SC) magnet applications. - Experience in safety-critical systems design This is an onsite role. The selected candidate must be able to work from our Batavia, Illinois location. The Laboratory may change duties and responsibilities at any time.
