TheEPPMteam works collaboratively with diverse stakeholdersbothwithinand external toPG&E to develop newvisualization andplanning toolsto inform grid capacity constraints and prepare for building and transportation electrification.The team worksin a matrixed environment toidentifybarriersin deliveringelectriccapacityto our customersandimplementssolutionsto addressthem.The team alsoadvocates forstrategies and policies toprocureand integrate DERs effectively and reliablythrough regulatoryproceedings,such asModernize the Electric Grid for a High Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Future.

Position Summary

TheElectricPlanning Policy & Modernization(EPPM)team is looking foran internto support the developmentand enhancementof distribution planning tools based on advanced automated analytics of PG&E's distribution grid.The successful internwill beinterested in learning how PG&E plans for Distributed Energy Resources (e.g., solar PV, energy storage, energy efficiency, and demand response)and canuseanalytical tools to clearlyrepresentour planning processesandenable strategies toexecute ourportfolio of worktointernal andexternal stakeholders.

The successful intern will helpEPPMdrivenumerousinitiatives including but not limited to:

  • Statistical data analysis and data validation to support publication of the data on a public map that includes information for the use of Distributed Energy Resources developers.
  • Extract information from various databases for analysis to answer key business questions.
  • Helpidentifyimprovements indistributiongrid modeling and simulations.
  • Help develop automated tools to efficiently perform distribution planningprocess.
  • Explore, innovate, anddemonstratetechnologies thatfacilitateeasier grid integration and modernization.
  • Analyze and synthesizevarious data streamsto support the publication of data from PG&E's annual distribution planning process.
  • The publication of anannualGrid Needs Assessment (GNA) andDistributionUpgradeProjectReport(DUPR) thatbrings transparency intocapacitydeficiencies and the project investment plan to address them.
  • Examine and document the methods by which to include known load applications from customers into the distribution load forecast
  • Leveraging diverse datasetsacrossPG&Eto visualizedistribution, transmission, and generationcapacity project executionprocesses,portfolio,andmetrics.
  • Runinterconnection capacity analysis(ICA)
  • Identifysystem or circuit level modeling errors/issues
  • Assistwith documentation and process mapping for ICA
  • Assistwithautomated analysis ofinterconnecting load

The successful intern will have the opportunity to lead and/or support activities as described above working with a team of experiencedEngineers, Product Managers,and Analysts.Additionally, the intern will gain knowledge of the largerElectricEngineeringorganization through the work they will be performing.

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $24.52 to 35.37

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earning a Bachelor's orMaster's degree in Electrical Engineering related field (students MUST be continuing education towards degree during and/or after internship)

Desired:

  • 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
  • Expertisein Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Familiarity with python and SQL scripts
  • Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communicationskills, both oral and written
  • Familiarity with large databases and data analyticsis a plus.
  • ElectricalEngineering background, particularly power systemengineering, isa plus.
