Duties/Responsibilities:

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support Federal projects and clients within the Department of Energy (DOE). This role will contribute to the design, analysis, specification, and implementation of mechanical systems in support of complex government and energy-related facilities and programs. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, and capable of working in regulated environments with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Support the design, analysis, and development of mechanical systems and components for Federal and DOE-related projects.
  • Develop, review, and maintain engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Coordinate with internal engineering teams, project managers, and external vendors to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Assist with equipment selection, system sizing, and performance evaluations.
  • Ensure designs and deliverables comply with applicable codes, standards, and Federal regulations (e.g., ASME, ANSI, DOE requirements).
  • Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and project status updates.
  • Support construction, installation, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities as required.
  • Review vendor submittals, technical data, and drawings for compliance with project specifications.
  • Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle, from concept through completion.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, and 3-10 years of mechanical engineering experience.
  • Fundamental knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, systems, and design methodologies.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Proficiency with common engineering software tools (e.g., CAD, analysis, or documentation tools).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, project-driven environment.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening and background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering, and 10+ years of experience.
  • Experience supporting Federal, DOE, or other government-related projects.
  • Familiarity with regulated or safety-sensitive environments (energy, nuclear, industrial, or infrastructure).
  • Knowledge of applicable mechanical codes and standards (ASME, NFPA, ANSI, etc.).
  • Experience coordinating with vendors, contractors, or multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Exposure to project controls, quality assurance, or compliance documentation.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.

Location/Work Arrangement:

  • This position is a fully onsite position in Oak Ridge, TN.
  • Full time, Monday - Friday, 40-hour work week.
