GED Teacher - Project LEARN Program (Full Time)

Location: Woonsocket, RI

Position Summary

The GED Teacher for the Project LEARN Program provides high-quality, standards-based instruction to adult learners working toward their General Education Diploma (GED). Project LEARN offers free adult education services in a supportive and inclusive learning environment, helping students achieve their educational, career, and workplace goals.

This role delivers multi-level instruction aligned with Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) Adult Education Standards and College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS), using best practices in adult education and learner-centered teaching. The GED Teacher collaborates with program staff to support student assessment, placement, goal setting, academic progress, and documentation. Instruction prepares students for the four official GED subject tests-Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies-administered at approved testing sites, while building the skills and confidence needed for postsecondary success and workforce readiness.

Responsibilities

1) Student Intake, Registration & Assessment


  • Participate in the student registration and intake process in collaboration with program staff.
  • Administer appropriate CASAS assessments to determine academic functioning levels.
  • Review assessment results and intake data to evaluate student needs and readiness.
  • Consult with the instructional and program team to recommend appropriate class placement.
  • Review intake materials for returning students to ensure continuity of services.

2) Instruction & Program Implementation


  • Provide multi-level GED instruction aligned with RIDE Adult Education.
  • Design and implement contextualized, learner-centered lessons that support academic and workplace readiness.
  • Incorporate a variety of instructional strategies, including whole-group instruction, small groups, paired learning, one-on-one support, dialogue, and role-playing.
  • Foster a supportive, inclusive classroom environment that respects adult learners' lived experiences and promotes engagement and persistence.

3) Assessment, Goal Setting & Student Progress


  • Administer required pre-tests and post-tests in compliance with program and RIDE guidelines.
  • Develop student learner goals during intake and review progress on a quarterly basis.
  • Complete student progress reports for alternative learning plans.
  • Maintain individual student portfolios containing academic work samples and evidence of learning.
  • Maintain organized student folders with formative assessments, learner goals, testing documentation, and related records.

4) Data, Attendance & Team Collaboration


  • Complete daily attendance records and submit attendance data to the Data Specialist biweekly.
  • Communicate timely updates regarding new intakes, attendance, testing, employment outcomes, and documentation.
  • Share student job placement or employment-related information with the Data Specialist as required.
  • Maintain consistent communication with program staff to support coordinated service delivery and accurate reporting.

Education, Experience & Skills


  • Bachelor's degree preferred; adult education experience preferred or demonstrated commitment to teaching adult learners.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning theory and best practices in adult education
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to documentation, data accuracy, and deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
