The College of Engineering at the University of Georgia is one of the fastest growing programs at UGA and one of the fastest growing public colleges of engineering in the nation. Since our founding in 2012, enrollment in the College of Engineering has grown to over 2,400 students. The College of Engineering Business Office provides services including payroll, expenditure approval, account reconciliation, working with managers of funds faculty, staff and any other financial assistance that provides a high level of service.

Position Summary
This full-time Staff position will join the College of Engineering's Business Office as a Grant Accountant. This position will support the organization's mission by linking core business functions to the organization's grant-funded projects.

This position will be responsible for reviewing, interpreting, and reconciling grant expenses and expenditures. This staff member will review submitted grant proposals, interpret budgets, gather data, and will partner with other members of the Business Office, College of Engineering Faculty, and internal/external staff/faculty/stakeholders involved in grant support across campus to ensure timely support on grant-related projects.

This position will help guide faculty and PI's on grant-related financial inquires, and will partner with other Business Office team members and UGA Grants team members to ensure work and guidance operate under UGA/Grant compliance.

Grant Financial Review & Reconciliation


  • Review submitted grant expenses and proposals for accuracy, ensuring all expenditures align with the organization's mission and grant-funded project goals.
  • Reconcile grant expenditures against system balances to maintain fiscal integrity and serve as a financial anchor for the department's accounts.
  • Interpret financial data to identify discrepancies and submit journal corrections to ensure the accuracy of the College's core business functions.
  • Monitor sub-award invoices and participant incentive requests (ClinCards) to ensure timely support on grant-related projects.

Budgetary Interpretation & Project Support


  • Interpret grants portal budgets, including direct and indirect components, to provide technical clarity for faculty and administrators.
  • Review and Interpret budget structures for specialized initiatives, such as study away programs and grant-related closeouts.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders involved in grant support across campus to facilitate grant budget modifications and finalization.
  • Ensure all budgetary work and guidance operate strictly under UGA/Grant compliance standards.

Payroll Coordination & Compliance Partnership


  • Partner with HR and faculty to determine and implement correct funding sources for grant-funded employees within One USG Connect.
  • Review payroll reporting to verify that grant expenditures are accurate and reflect the approved project scope.
  • Guide faculty and PIs on payroll-related financial inquiries, including the submission and reconciliation of faculty summer salary.
  • Work with the graduate payroll administrator to track and project tuition returns, ensuring these core business functions link accurately to grant projects.

  • Gather data to utilize in comprehensive reporting for faculty and administrators to support informed decision-making.
  • Partner with other Business Office team members on duties as assigned that contribute to the success of the College of Engineering's grant process.
  • Other duties as assigned that will contribute to the success of the Business Office and budgetary/grants initiatives for the College of Engineering.
