Responsibilities

Three Trails Hospitalin Independence, MO is actively hiring a Director of Intake to direct the Assessment and Referral activities at the facility. As a clinician, this position provides direction to a staff of Assessment & Intake Counselors in the provision of psychiatric assessment services, including clinical evaluations, crisis intervention, and referrals.

The name Three Trails was selected to honor the historical significance of the city of Independence as the starting point for the Santa Fe, Oregon and California Trails. The logo icon is a compass, which is symbolic of wayfinding, and metaphorically the personal journey to recovery.

The Groundbreaking for the new hospital was held in January 2025. Beam topping was held in July 2025. The facility is expected to open in the second half of 2026.

As a member of the senior leadership team, the Director of Intake will:

  • Directs the screening of potential patients for admission into the program and initiate the integrated assessment process.
  • Assist administration, physicians and clinical staff in the assessment of pending admits to determine appropriateness of level of care and communicates pending admissions to the Nursing Department.
  • Monitors all intake/reservation information calls during normal business hours and prepares appropriate internal forms.
  • Functions as a liaison between physicians and families, coordinates with transportation services and other mental health facilities to organize the admission procedures.
  • Provide services to current referral sources to assure their satisfaction and continued associations.
  • Ensure interdisciplinary treatment planning is organized with participation of all appropriate clinical disciplines.

Three Trails Behavioral Hospital will:

  • Serve children and adolescents, adults and seniors with innovative and evidence-based inpatient behavioral healthcare focused on individual needs and comfort.
  • Create more than 200 new, full-time jobs including nurses, clinicians, therapists, technicians and administrative staff, when the facility is fully operational.
  • Be located at the intersection of I-70 and Little Blue Parkway, adjacent to the Children's Mercy Hospital Outpatient Clinics.
  • Feature 120 licensed beds ready to meet the mental health needs of the surrounding community.
  • Span more than 88,000 square feet, and will include an activity yard and gym.

Qualifications

Education: Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology, mental health, or related field required. Will also consider candidates that possess a graduation from an accredited program of professional nursing.

Experience: A minimum of five (5) years direct clinical experience in a psychiatric or mental health setting desirable. Working knowledge of the Addiction & Recovery field and experience in clinical interviewing, patient assessment, family motivation, treatment planning, communicating with external review organizations or comparable entities, and working effectively with people of diverse backgrounds. Must have strong management skills with ability to effectively communicate with staff, ensuring proper employee performance management.

Licensure: R.N., L.C.S.W., L.M.S.W., LPC or applicable license.

Additional Requirements: Complete knowledge of crisis intervention techniques. CPI or Handle with Care certification and CPR.
