Department Summary The Department of Chemistry offers various opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students interested in cutting-edge technology and research. We allow students to pursue their scientific creativity with guidance from leading chemistry faculty. Chemistry is the study of matter and its reactions, provides a basic understanding needed to deal with a variety of societal and scientific needs, including energy, food production, health and medicine, biotechnology, new materials, environmental concerns, new processes, and national defense. Chemistry is a science central to the study of medicine, biology and modern physics. Position Overview The purpose of this position is to maintain stockroom inventory, distribute chemicals, laboratory equipment, and train and co-supervise student assistants. Maintain all records for stockroom inventory, issue receipts, stock control and purchasing in relation to Chemistry Department. Assists Stockroom Manager in the processing of purchase orders and related documents. Cover all daily stockroom duties during Stockroom Manager's absence, i.e.: days off, vacation or illness Minimum Qualifications High school diploma/GED equivalent and four years of experience in inventory, purchasing or related field. Substitution of education for experience allowed. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Skill in making mathematical calculations and computations. Ability to keep records, to assemble and organize data, and to prepare and submit reports in acceptable formats. Supervisory skills. Experience in inventory stock control which includes purchasing, receiving and distributing stock. Experience with computer data base systems and Microsoft Office. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of State of Texas regulations and systems for purchasing will be considered a plus Job Duties
