The Environmental Remediation and Compliance Business Unit Leader is a senior leadership role responsible for national growth strategy, business development, and full P&L ownership. This role provides enterprise-level leadership for market positioning, client development, capture strategy, and investment planning across all regions and sectors.


The Business Unit Leader is accountable for defining and executing the national growth strategy, achieving revenue and profitability targets, and expanding the firm's footprint through organic growth, cross-selling, and strategic pursuits. This leader partners closely with Business Group, Regional, and Market Sector leadership to deliver integrated environmental compliance and remediation solutions and build a high-performing, scalable national practice.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Owns full P&L responsibility for the Environmental Remediation practice, including revenue, profitability, backlog, forecasting, and long-term financial performance.
  • Develops, executes, and continuously refines the national growth strategy for environmental remediation services, aligned with corporate and Business Line's strategic plans.
  • Defines priority markets, clients, geographies, and service offerings to drive sustained growth and competitive differentiation.
  • Establishes annual and multi-year growth targets and ensures accountability for results across regions and leaders.
  • Identifies and champions strategic investments (talent, capabilities, tools, acquisitions, partnerships) to accelerate growth and margin performance.
  • Leads national business development and capture strategy for environmental remediation, including major pursuits, key client plans, and cross-market opportunities.
  • Serves as Executive Sponsor for marquee clients and complex, high-value remediation pursuits.
  • Drives a disciplined capture process, including go/no-go decisions, teaming strategies, pricing, and value proposition development.
  • Partners with Growth, Marketing, and Market Sector Leaders to strengthen brand presence and market positioning in remediation.
  • Actively cultivates executive-level client relationships and represents the firm externally with regulators, industry organizations, and strategic partners.
  • Provides overall leadership and governance for the national environmental remediation practice, ensuring consistent delivery, financial discipline, and operational excellence.
  • Oversees practice structure, leadership roles, and resourcing models to support scalable growth.
  • Ensures strong coordination across regions, offices, and other practices to deliver integrated solutions and maximize cross-selling.
  • Monitors performance metrics and proactively addresses operational, financial, or delivery risks.
  • Provides senior level oversight of environmental remediation services, including:
    • Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments
    • Soil and groundwater investigations
    • RCRA and Superfund programs
    • Regulatory Coordination and Negotiation
    • Vapor intrusion investigations and mitigation
    • Corrective and remedial action planning
    • Remedial Strategy Development
    • Remediation design, implementation, and site closure
  • Ensures consistent application of technical standards, regulatory compliance, quality management systems, and risk management practices.
  • Supports resolution of complex technical, contractual, or regulatory issues on major programs.
  • Builds and leads a high-performing team for environmental remediation.
  • Identifies talent needs, leads senior-level hiring, and establishes succession plans for key leadership roles.
  • Mentors project principals, and senior technical staff; promotes a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Champions professional development, knowledge sharing, and thought leadership across the practice.
  • Accountable for safety performance across the national remediation practice.
  • Ensures safety, environmental protection, and regulatory compliance are embedded into all remediation activities.
Education | Experience:

What you will bring to our firm:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 20 years of progressive experience in environmental remediation and environmental compliance, including leadership of large, complex programs.
  • Demonstrated success leading national or multi-regional practices with responsibility for growth, profitability, and strategic planning.
  • Proven track record of business development, capture leadership, and client relationship management at an executive level.
  • Experience with P&L ownership, financial forecasting, and performance management.
  • Deep knowledge of environmental remediation regulations and frameworks at the federal, state, and/or local level.
  • Ability to travel nationally, as required.
What we prefer you bring:
  • Professional licensure or certifications (PE, PG, CHMM , PMP, or equivalent).
  • Established industry reputation and thought leadership in environmental remediation.
  • Experience integrating environmental remediation/compliance services with infrastructure, transportation, energy, water, or industrial markets.
  • Prior experience leading transformational growth or practice expansion.
Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $208,000 - $260,000; Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
