Summary:
The role of Float Resource RN is designed to support Clinical Nurse I's on the 7p-7a shift. This person will round on new nurses to provide support and education as they progress and develop their practice. The Resource RN works collaboratively with nursing leadership to achieve quality care outcomes, patient and family safety, and retention of nursing staff. The Resource RN must have proven leadership skills in patient care, education, and mentorship of nursing staff, including experience as a Preceptor or Clinical Instructor. Will be expected to have taken or will take the MMC Preceptor Series. The Resource RN must demonstrate the ability to work with individuals and teams, have excellent communication skills and conflict resolution skills. The Resource RN must demonstrate the ability to be an effective link between nursing leadership and nurses on the units, exhibiting professionalism and positivity. In addition:

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: A Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is required.
  2. License/Certifications: CMSRN or specialty certification preferred
  3. Experience: Three to five years of current acute, inpatient medical surgical experience. Meets all requirements of Clinical Nurse I. Completion of Level I usually achieved by 12 months of employment. Three to five years of current acute, inpatient medical surgical experience. Medical Telemetry experience is required, Cardiac Telemetry experience preferred.
  4. Evidence of 10 hours of ongoing education per year.
  5. Demonstrates a caring nursing practice and promotes a healing environment for patients and families.
  6. Demonstrates the required knowledge and technical skills to care for most patient populations on the unit.
  7. Interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  8. Ability to identify potential crisis situations involving patients and/or families and to initiate appropriate action.
  9. In accordance with the Clinical Nursing Advancement Program, a Clinical Nurse II may choose to remain at Level II as opposed to seeking advancement to Level III.
