RK&K is hiring a Project Engineer in Virginia. As a Project Engineer you will be responsible for managing the Inspection and materials testing staff (2 to 5 staff) for their assigned area with a focus on safety, quality, and environmental compliance through proactive communication with PMSS and Contractor staff and accurate and timely documentation. Essential Functions
- Develops inspection and testing plans based on review of the plans, specifications, standards, and shop drawings
- Coordinate with subject matter experts for Safety, Quality and Environmental Compliance to ensure the SME is on-site during critical activities which require their involvement
- Obtain daily schedule of contractor's activities and assigns inspection and technician staff as required
- Provide daily summarization of a project area's activities to include contractor's work, inspections performed, and on-site materials testing performed
- Confirm field inspections and testing are performed at the required frequency
- Determine when an approved change is required, e.g. RFI, FDC, NDC, etc.
- Compliance assessment of field inspections and testing as compared to the approved tolerances
- Makes recommendations to CM for acceptance or rejection of contractor's work
- Document, provide solutions, and obtain approval of non-compliant work and provide the required documentation
- Makes recommendations for non-complaint work corrective action and solutions to plan or field conflicts
- Track scheduled activities and identify potential delays and recommend mitigation
- Reviews monthly invoices from contractors, coordinates material clearance process with Materials Manager and scheduling of materials sampling and testing
- Attend preparatory meetings, progress meetings, quality resolution meetings, and safety briefings
- Has the ability to fill in for inspectors when needed and perform inspections, materials testing, and document objective evidence that the completed work meets contract requirements
- Willing to cover night or weekend shift when needed
Required Skills and Experience
- 5+ years' experience, managing complex transportation construction
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong technical knowledge of typical construction methods and procedures
- Strong background in the interpretation and review of construction drawings, specifications, schedules, etc.
- Intermediate computer skills, including functional familiarity with Microsoft Office
- Ability to lift 40lbs and maneuver in constricted construction zones
- Ability to pass Criminal History Background Check (CHBC)
- Must be eligible to work in the United States
- High School diploma or equivalent
Preferred Skills and Experience
- BS in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent
- EIT, CMIT preferred. Heavy rail, bridge, retaining walls, deep foundations, CSX, DDOT, VDOT, NPS, WMATA and marine experience a plus
- ACI and Soils certification
