Our Moog Military Aircraft Group is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our avionics engineering team. You'll contribute to the design, documentation, sustainment, and reliability of embedded systems used in critical flight and mission equipment. You'll have an onsite work schedule in Mineral Wells, TX working collaboratively with experienced engineers across multiple disciplines in a structured environment that emphasizes technical excellence, documentation rigor, and long-term product ownership. Moog Avionics delivers customer-focused technologies and customized solutions for Special Mission, Military & Defense, Military Trainer, Business, and General Aviation industries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design mechanical packaging for avionics LRUs, electronic modules, and ruggedized enclosures.
  • Develop detailed 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings exclusively using SolidWorks.
  • Perform structural, thermal, vibration, and materials considerations to ensure designs meet environmental and mechanical requirements.
  • Conduct reliability assessments, including failure rate predictions, component derating reviews, and longterm durability considerations.
  • Perform and document FMEA analyses (Design FMEA and/or Process FMEA) to identify potential failure modes and mitigation strategies.
  • Support redesign and sustainment of legacy equipment, including reverse engineering and updating outdated documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with electrical engineering to integrate PCBs, connectors, wiring, and internal components into enclosure designs.
  • Execute tolerance analysis, material selection, and hardware specification to meet aerospace standards.
  • Support prototype builds, qualification testing, and troubleshooting for design and integration issues.
  • Prepare BOMs, ECOs, reports, and technical documentation within PLM systems.
  • Participate in peer reviews, design reviews, and compliance evaluations for mechanical and environmental standards (DO160, MILSTD810, etc.).
  • Work with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure designs meet DFM/DFA best practices.

To be considered for the Mechanical Engineer role, here are the skills you'll bring with you...

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field experience.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, or avionics principles.
  • 3+ years of mechanical design experience; avionics or aerospace background preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks.
  • Experience in electronics packaging, enclosure design, or related mechanical-electrical integration.
  • Working knowledge of vibration, thermal, and structural performance requirements.
  • Familiarity with DO-160, MIL-STD-810, and related aerospace mechanical/environmental standards.
  • Ability to create and interpret engineering drawings with GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
  • Experience performing FMEA, DFMEA, PFMEA, or similar structured reliability analyses.
  • Strong analytical thinking, communication skills, and attention to detail.
  • Must be a U.S citizen.

Salary Range Transparency:

Mineral Wells, TX $60,000.00-$90,000.00 Annually

Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance.
