Job Title: Director of Digital Marketing and Communications
Duration: Contract 2-4 months

$50-$60 hourly rate
Position Overview A prominent New York City-based nonprofit is seeking a strategic and creative Director of Digital Marketing. This individual will lead the organization's digital footprint, overseeing the website, social media channels, and email marketing efforts. Serving as a brand steward and project manager, the Director will ensure all digital communications reflect the organization's innovative mission while enhancing its public reputation.

This role requires a persuasive communicator who can concept and manage creative content while serving as an internal expert on digital channels. The Director will collaborate with senior leadership to support marketing operations for signature high-profile events and fundraising initiatives. Additionally, this role ensures that partner events, newsletters, and announcements are effectively branded, deployed, and analyzed for success.

Primary Responsibilities

Calendar & Campaigns
  • Strategic Planning: Manage the integrated marketing and communications calendar, tracking key annual events, fundraising campaigns, and organizational initiatives.

  • Production Management: Facilitate campaign meetings and serve as the production lead to ensure all digital assets are developed and implemented on schedule.

  • Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional teams to create high-impact campaigns that drive awareness and fundraising growth.

  • Creative Asset Coordination: Work with design and production teams to ideate and create branded digital and print assets, including video and photography.

Website Management
  • Platform Oversight: Manage the website hosting agency to develop landing pages, interactive content, and downloadable collateral.

  • Technical Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for web developers to coordinate updates, major changes, and troubleshooting.

  • Content Integration: Collaborate with the communications team to schedule and post articles, news stories, and crisis communications.

  • Analytics: Track and review website performance, providing comprehensive quarterly audits and reports.

Social Media & Email Marketing
  • Team Leadership: Manage the social media team to ensure consistent posting and engagement across all organizational accounts.

  • Content Support: Assist with content creation (design, photo, and copy) as needed to maintain brand voice.

  • Campaign Deployment: Oversee the scheduling and deployment of email marketing campaigns and fundraising appeals.

  • Performance Tracking: Analyze social and email metrics to optimize engagement and report on quarterly success.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field.

  • Experience: 7+ years of experience in Marketing and Communications, ideally within the nonprofit sector.

  • Analytical Mindset: Strong ability to analyze digital data for marketing communications and donor engagement programs.

  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with online donation platforms (e.g., Classy, Blackbaud, iDonate, EveryAction) and audience engagement tools.

  • Creative Tools: Proficiency in design and editing software, including Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and WordPress.

  • Management Skills: Highly organized project manager capable of handling high-volume workflows and coordinating with operations for service subscriptions.

  • Communication: Exceptional writing and editorial skills, with the ability to translate complex information into simple, compelling value propositions.

  • Software Knowledge: Familiarity with MS Office, Google Analytics, project management tools (e.g., Monday.com), and social media management platforms (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprout Social).

  • the individual's skill sets, experience and training;
  • licensure and certification requirements;

With that said, as required by local law, Vaco by Highspring believes that the following salary range referenced above reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
