Adult Basic Education Teacher, Correction Education - SCI Smithfield

In this position, you will provides adult basic education to incarcerated adult women. Your work will involve preparing lesson plans by specifying content and activities to be covered, sequence of instruction, material needed and standards for lesson accomplishment. You will prepare assessment techniques and analyze the information gathered to determine adult inmate capabilities and readiness of learning. Classroom instruction will include a variety of subjects including basic math, reading, science, social studies, and career development. You will also prepare and administer quizzes, tests, and exercises to direct students' study and measure individual achievement. Additionally, you will monitor inmate behavior, establish classroom rules and procedures to maintain an effective learning environment, and discipline disruptive students.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• A bachelor's degree in education which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of an institution-approved teaching practicum; or
• Four years of paraprofessional experience assisting educational staff in a classroom setting that includes or is supplemented by one year of experience providing classroom instruction or possession of an active Instructional 1 or 2 certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes or is supplemented by completion of an institution-approved teaching practicum, one year of experience providing classroom instruction, or possession of an active Instructional 1 or 2 certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Other Requirements:

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

• You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
