Hourly Pay Range:

$36.00 - $55.80 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

General Summary:

Provides quality general and psychiatric nursing care to patients hospitalized for emotional or psychiatric disorders; serves actively and constructively as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team, supporting the organization and program philosophy of care; to ensure the safety and well-being of each patient

What you will do:

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served. This includes knowledge of the physical and psychological needs of patients served and the ability to respond appropriately to those needs.

Regularly performs duties of professional nurse which includes assessing patients' condition, developing and administrating patient plan of care, documenting care administered, and evaluating patient care outcomes. Warmly welcomes patients to the unit. Promotes and maintains a safe, therapeutic milieu by providing appropriate supervision and feedback to the other direct care staff. Ensures that rounds are assigned and precaution records completed in real time.

Collaborates with the Resource and Referral Department to facilitate patient admissions and transfers. Requests and provides thorough hand off communication upon admission, transfer or discharge and when sending or receiving boarding patients.

Interacts with the patient, the patient's family, and the appropriate health care providers to collect and analyze data regarding the patient's physical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, and anticipated discharge planning needs. Participates in development of interdisciplinary planning process. Ensures that medical problems are incorporated into the treatment plan.

Assists in the development and attainment of nursing department goals and objectives; participates in activities to improve department functioning and to enhance own professional competence.

Assists in the selection and orientation of qualified personnel to provide optimum patient care; demonstrates the ability to evaluate suggestions and criticisms objectively and wherever necessary undertakes to change behavior or seek further guidance. Participates in program evaluation.

Attends in-service programs and trainings; serves as a role model and central resource person for students; explains and clarifies organization policies and procedures to staff and patients; utilizes opportunities with community groups to further their knowledge and understanding of mental health problems.

Maintains effective communication with all units and departments; maintains designated lines of authority, functions within the policies and philosophies of the organization; performs and supervises direct patient care as required; works within budgetary constraints to include staffing, use of overtime and use of supplies and equipment.

Establishes good rapport and working relationships to foster intra and inter departmental communications necessary for the delivery of quality patient care; responds to requests for information from patients, families, and visitors; provides directions as necessary; maintains the confidentiality of patient and organization information; communicates pertinent information as necessary by telephone and or in writing.

Recognizes and responds appropriately to priorities in assignments; performs routine assignments independently, seeking direction when indicated for unusual or non-routine duties; advises appropriate personnel of situations requiring additional nursing expertise or technical follow-up.

Maintains a clean and safe work environment, implements emergency procedures, drills, and code procedures as necessary; helps ensure that proper work (repair) orders are dispatched.

What you will need:

Education, Skills and/or Experience Required:

  • Maintain information as highly confidential

Education, Skills and/or Experience Preferred:

  • One-year psychiatric experience

  • Basic knowledge of abnormal psychology as typically found in the psychiatric population

  • Familiarity with management of a therapeutic level system and understanding of system of rewards and consequences

License/Certification Required:

  • Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse license

  • Current CPR Certification issued by either American Heart Association or Red Cross

  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification within 90 days of hire
