JOB DETAILS
The Capital Projects Manager is responsible for leading the planning, prioritization, and execution of the site capital project portfolio. This role provides end to end accountability for capital projects from concept through commissioning and close out, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in alignment with operational and business objectives.
The Capital Projects Manager partners closely with site leadership, operations, maintenance, reliability, EH&S, and finance to develop capital plans, manage capital governance, and oversee the execution of multiple concurrent projects. This role leads internal project teams and external contractors while maintaining strong oversight of cost, schedule, risk, and compliance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITEIS
Capital Portfolio & Strategic Planning
* Own and manage the site capital project portfolio, including annual and multi year capital planning
* Partner with site leadership to identify, prioritize, and justify capital investments aligned with safety, reliability, capacity, and business strategy
* Support development of capital budgets, forecasts, and long range capital plans
* Evaluate project proposals, business cases, and funding requests
Project Delivery & Accountability
* Provide overall accountability for capital projects from concept, design, and procurement through construction, commissioning, and handover
* Ensure projects meet approved scope, cost, schedule, quality, safety, and environmental objectives
* Oversee execution of multiple capital projects simultaneously at various stages of development
* Establish clear project objectives, deliverables, and success metrics
Governance, Risk & Compliance
* Ensure all capital projects follow established capital governance and approval processes
* Lead or support phase gate and project review processes
* Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies
* Provide oversight for Management of Change (MOC), risk assessments, and safe design practices
* Promote strong contractor safety performance and regulatory compliance
Leadership & Resource Management
* Lead and develop a team of project engineers and/or project managers
* Oversee contractor, EPC, and vendor resources, including selection, performance, and utilization
* Plan and manage project resourcing to support capital portfolio demands
* Provide coaching, development, and performance feedback to direct reports
Stakeholder Communication & Reporting
* Provide routine project status updates to site and functional leadership, including cost, schedule, risks, and mitigation plans
* Serve as a key liaison between engineering, operations, maintenance, EH&S, finance, and external partners
* Communicate clearly and effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
