THE POSITION

If so, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is excited to welcome a motivated Surveyor 1 to contribute to vital field operations for the Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation (BAMR). DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Surveyor 1, you will perform field work with a group of survey corps engaged in engineering surveys to collect, record, and plot data for various engineering projects, development, design, and construction phases of projects and map-making purposes for the Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation. Part of your role will involve gathering and reviewing data from various legal, technical, and professional sources to resolve any discrepancies related to property lines, easements, rights-of-way, or any problems related to land surveying throughout the Commonwealth. You will supervise surveys of high complexity which may involve unusual or difficult problems, as well as consult with engineering personnel to resolve issues of an engineering nature within all sections of the bureau.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Ebensburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $59,345.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Surveyor Technician Supervisor (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Five years of responsible surveying work, including one year as a chief of party of a wide variety of surveying assignments; and graduation from high school. An Associate Degree in surveying or engineering technology may be substituted for one year of non-specialized experience; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession of a registered surveyor's license as issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, or possession of a registered surveyor's license obtained in another public jurisdiction under requirements which are at least equal to those of Pennsylvania.

Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires a valid driver's license that is not under suspension.
