The Director of System Engineering is responsible for driving excellence in System Engineering across the BMT product portfolio. This person will partner with the Director of Product Management and Director of Program Management to translate business objectives into programs and priorities for New Product Introductions, Sustaining Engineering, and Advanced Technology Programs. This position is a bridge between the tactical execution of product projects and the strategic technical leadership of the BMT R&D organization. As a key member of the BMT R&D team, this position will promote and drive innovation and excellence through cross-functional collaboration. You will lead a team of highly capable technical leaders and are responsible for growing their skills and capabilities. This individual is empowered and accountable for the technical ownership of the product designs and is responsible for executing to the product and technology roadmaps defined for the business.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Planning and Strategy:

  • Develop technical talent in the organization to formulate and execute the technical strategy necessary to
  • realize the Product Roadmap that support BMT's 5-year Strategic Plan.
  • Collaborate with cross functional business teams to ensure a solid technical strategy supports the product roadmap and project portfolio.
  • Lead a highly technical team of system engineers to define product objectives and the develop execution plans necessary to deliver programs needed to meet the business goals and objectives.
  • Develop the technical ability of your team to understand our customers unique needs and translate these needs into executable steps within the product development programs.
  • Develop and work with KOL's to generate and refine the BMT technology pipeline.
  • Assess the commercial potential of research results and allocate resources to strategically expand and strengthen BMT's product offerings.
  • Establish relationships with global Bracco leaders to engage in technology initiatives to improve the overall competitiveness of Bracco.
  • Champion and build an environment that values continuous improvement
  • Develop and leverage partnerships effectively with cross functional teams including Marketing, Quality, Manufacturing and Regulatory to achieve business results
  • Engage your team to collaborate with the Chief Engineer to define the technologies across the BMT portfolio that enables delivery of the product roadmap.
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership to transition products from research phase to product development process

People Leadership:

  • Lead and develop a highly functional team of professionals responsible for the definition and development of BMT medical device products.
  • Lead and develop the competencies of the BMT Systems team to improve their capabilities as product and system technology owners
  • Communicate BMT's corporate objectives, goals, directives, and policies to the Systems team, creating a clear vision and positive, team-oriented environment.
  • Create a culture of innovation and excellence in a fast-paced, lean environment
  • Recruit, hire, develop and manage system engineers to accomplish business goals and empower employee success.
  • Ensure that team resources are aligned and driven to achieve project milestones and corporate initiatives.

Functional/Technical Leadership:

  • Provide technical engineering leadership and mentoring to ensure new product development projects remain on schedule, within budgets, meet end use performance criteria, and fully conform to established design control and related FDA/ISO compliance criteria.
  • Ensure rigorous documentation for all phases of development, including design specifications, verification/validation test plans, and project schedules.
  • Participate in the selection of vendors and fabrication sources. Work closely with (contract) manufacturers to promote efficient design transfer into production.
  • Partner with strategic Marketing to identify, assess and drive new product development opportunities that provide value to the BMT business and positioning.

Supervisory Responsibility: This refers to direct line control over a group of staff members in recruiting and selection, compensation and promotion, performance appraisal, budgetary control and termination.

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

Minimum

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, bio-science, or related technology field
  • 10 years of experience in product and technology development
  • 8 years of experience directly managing engineers or highly technical teams, 5-7 of those years managing leaders within a Product Development function.
  • 5+ years' experience in the medical device industry or highly regulated industry
  • Demonstrated track record in hiring, developing, and retaining technical talent
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and achieve results through others.
  • Ability to motivate, lead, & develop innovative teams composed of scientific and technical personnel.
  • Experience working in a global matrix environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver on time and on budget, in a fast-paced lean environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interface, negotiate and influence multi-disciplinary teamsand with different levels of personnel.
  • Intrinsically curious, innovative thinker and problem solver.
  • Ability to see how all the pieces fit together and contribute to the achievement of broader organizational objectives; strong business acumen, financial skills, and judgment.

Preferred

  • PhD in engineering, bio-science, or related technical field
  • Product development experience in fluid management (contrast), diagnostic imaging (CT, MR, XR, IVUS), and cardiovascular fields
  • Led exploration and development of derivative technologies into new markets
  • Technical expertise in cardiovascular catheter design
  • Understanding and application of analytics and AI in data management and product design.
  • Advanced knowledge of system level constraints in all disciplines including mechanical, electrical and software engineering.
  • Knowledge of QSR, ISO/EN and Quality System Standards
  • Experience in Business Development and due diligence evaluations of companies.
  • Understanding of medical literature and clinical data

Other

  • Adheres to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes and ensures that they are communicated and implemented within the team.
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 30% of the time. Occasional international travel.
Compensation & Total Rewards:

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $200,000.00-$240,000.00

*Estimated Starting Salary Range is reflective of the range Bracco Medical Technologies reasonably expects to pay for the position. The range provided is based on salary and market data specific to the position.
