Position Title: Phlebotomist I

Work Location: 302 S Main Street, China Grove, NC

Assignment Duration: 3-Month Contract

Work Schedule:



  • Monday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM
  • Tuesday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Thursday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM
  • Friday: 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • First two weeks dedicated to orientation and training


Work Arrangement: Onsite


Position Summary

The Phlebotomist I supports laboratory operations by assisting with assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and workflow recommendations. This role is primarily focused on specimen processing rather than blood draws.


Background & Context

  • Coverage for FMLA at a doctor's office (IOP)
  • Potential for extension


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform specimen handling tasks including labeling, centrifuging, and processing
  • Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures
  • Collect and store specimens following established protocols
  • Clearly explain specimen collection processes to patients when required
  • Demonstrate knowledge of venipuncture techniques (straight and butterfly needles)
  • Review and understand physician orders
  • Match laboratory requisitions with specimen tubes
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required
  • Verify accuracy of test requisitions and labels
  • Package specimens for transport
  • Maintain proper specimen storage conditions and transport protocols
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
  • Attend required training sessions
  • Handle phone inquiries and communicate lab results
  • Primarily responsible for sample processing (minimal to no blood draws)


Qualifications & Experience

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification (as required by state)
  • Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital
  • 2-4 years of overall experience preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Skills:

    • Phlebotomy
    • Customer Service
    • Flexibility


  • Comfortable working independently and handling difficult draws (preferred, though role is processing-focused)


Working Conditions & Physical Demands

  • Standing for most of the shift (with lunch break)
  • Medium-sized doctor's office (IOP setting)
  • May work alone at times
  • Initial 2-week orientation and training

    • Location: 5901 Northwoods Business Parkway
