This role requires onsite work on a regular basis.

Job responsibilities for this position will focus on the support of our retail and specialty pharmacy services. This includes (but is not limited to) direct support of Willow Ambulatory, support of Compass Rose in our specialty pharmacy and a focus on Willow build to support outpatient areas (i.e. outpatient medication build, outpatient preference list maintenance, etc.). General Willow IP support will also be expected, including on-call support.

The Sr. APeX Application Analyst functions as the primary support contact and expert for the application. They work under the direction of the Team Lead and/or Manager to configure, build & install the application. They coordinate all issues that arise during the project for their application area. Key operational activities include primary responsibility to analyze workflows and understand policies, procedures and constraints of the clinical or business operations support by the application. In-depth and precise investigation and documentation of operational specifications and application functionality is required. Key technical activities include the analysis of new releases to determine how workflow should be modified, building and populating databases and tables during initial system configuration, conducting system testing, and conversion data validation. The application analyst develops and documents internal procedures and establishes change control processes for the application. As a Sr. APeX Application Analyst the candidate is expected to lead project/initiatives within the team/department.

The Sr. APeX Application Analyst also develops user training aids and trains end users in workflow and use of the application. They function as the primary contact to troubleshoot problems and questions from end-users during training, go-live, stabilization, and ongoing support (7x24). Successful candidates are skilled communicators who make decisions independently and in collaboration with others up and down the project structure. They are considered technical leaders with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas. Attention to detail is a critical skill for this position. Successful candidates enjoy helping other users to learn and adapt to the use of the application.

The Sr. APeX Willow Analyst must be certified in one of the following APeX applications (or successfully receive certification within 6 months of hire):

  • Willow Ambulatory
  • Willow Specialty Pharmacy
  • Willow Inpatient


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in health care information technology, computer science, or related area, and/or equivalent combination of experience/training.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience,
  • Epic Willow Ambulatory Application Certification
  • Epic Willow Inpatient Application Certification
  • Broadly encompassing or highly In-depth knowledge of 1-2 areas of focus in (fill in) specialty area(s). Knowledge of operations, systems and functions, including planning, design, development, implementation, user support and training, maintenance, quality assurance, and system testing and evaluation.
  • Ability to apply advanced problem-resolution skills to highly complex issues, quickly diagnose problems, and develop, test, and implement appropriate and effective solutions in a timely manner.
  • Advanced interpersonal communication skills to effectively train, support, and collaborate productively with clinical users and key stakeholders at all professional and technical levels.
  • Advanced written and verbal communications skills, to convey highly technical information and instructions to all levels of clinical users and staff in a specific, clear, and concise manner.
  • Advanced analytical skills and expertise in documentation and reporting, with the ability to apply metrics, plan and implement testing systems, collect and analyze performance data, and produce substantive reports and analyses for management use.
  • Advanced ability to serve as a technical leader and information resource, and to work collaboratively with key personnel and management, providing guidance and recommendations on systems, improvements, upgrades, and industry advances and trends.

License/Certification:

  • Epic Willow Ambulatory Application Certification
  • Epic Willow Inpatient Application Certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Academic Medical Center experience with 5+ years of Epic experience
  • Advanced organizational and project management skills, and ability to lead a team, prioritize tasks, and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule.
  • Epic Willow Specialty Pharmacy Application Certification
  • PharmD degree

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
