The Public Safety Dispatcher is responsible for the general operation of the UCSF Communication Center, which consists of the following: process telephone calls for 911 police, fire medical and non-emergency services; input information into a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System; input data into the various Law Enforcement Telecommunications Systems and interpret the printout information once it is obtained; operate a multi-channel radio system under emergency as well as non- emergency circumstances, adhering to FCC rules and regulations in the course of its operation and ability to audibly monitor radio traffic; operate a hand-held two-way radio for communications; maintain various logs; process various alarms; and perform other duties as assigned. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Required Qualifications High School diploma or GED equivalent Valid California Driver's License Successful completion of California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Course required within one year of appointment. Passing Score on POST Entry-level Dispatcher Selection Test Battery, prior to academy Knowledge of Police Dispatching Procedures Including the Operation of state-of-the-art Telephone and Radio Systems within 1 year of appointment Must be able to work shifts on rotational basis (days, swings and midnights); must be able to work on-call assignments and/or overtime as required Effective written and verbal communications Please Note: This position will require medical and psychological examinations and an extensive background investigation in compliance with California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) standards. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of Information Technology, Personal Computers and related Software Applications Knowledge of Police Dispatching Procedures Including the Operation of state-of-the-art Telephone and Radio Systems Knowledge of Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Systems Knowledge of Information Technology, Personal Computers and related Software Applications License/Certification California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Course Certificate required within one year of appointment.
