The Senior Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations plays an integral role in strengthening the Mass General Brigham philanthropic program, with a focus on the MGB Cancer Institute. Working in close collaboration with colleagues, physicians and other organizational partners, the Senior Director is responsible for the strategic identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects and donors for assigned fundraising areas.
The Senior Director will manage a portfolio of prospects and donors and meet annual fundraising and performance metrics as established by the department via foundation, and/or corporate giving. This is a management position that oversees direct reports and may oversee indirect reports as well. Essential Functions Partner with Assistant VP: Help shape and implement the department's long-term vision, fundraising strategies, and annual business plan. Serve as a thought partner to the Assistant VP, contributing insights on market trends, emerging funding opportunities, and potential high-impact partnerships. * Strategy Development: Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to secure funding for MGB Cancer Institute, driving annual growth and multi-year revenue targets. Provide regular updates on team progress, revenue performance, and strategic priorities. * Team Management: Oversee a small team of corporate and foundation fundraising professionals ensuring alignment with institutional goals and philanthropic priorities.Empower subject matter experts to build strong relationships across business units, gaining deep knowledge on philanthropic priorities, translating those insights into actionable strategies, and facilitating two-way communication. Ensure that opportunities, prospect intelligence, and funding priorities are shared promptly to maximize cross-team success. * Provide active management, mentorship and leadership to direct reports: o Serve as an advocate and mentor, and encourage their professional development. o Develop appropriate and tailored organizational and individual achievement metrics. o Conduct all appropriate evaluations in a timely manner. o Maintain up to date job descriptions. o Lead the recruiting and onboarding for direct reports, partnering with Development Talent Management/MGB Human Resources. * Portfolio Management: Personally manage a high-value portfolio and oversee portfolio assignments for team members with careful attention to portfolio equity, load, and moves management. Set performance expectations, monitor progress, and provide the tools and guidance for team members' success. * Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with internal stakeholders - including division and department leaders, clinicians, researchers, and senior leadership - and with Trustees and other leadership volunteers to develop cross disciplinary, transformational, and innovative funding opportunities for institutional priorities. * Ensure Compliance, Documentation: Maintain accurate records in donor databases, adhere to organizational standards and confidentiality requirements. Contribute to positive office morale and take on additional duties as needed. * Professional Development: Remain current on philanthropy trends to be an effective ambassador for programs and giving opportunities for both donors and internal colleagues. * Travel and Work Flexibility: Be prepared to travel and work evenings/weekends as necessary for prospect meetings, events, and professional development opportunities. Represent MGB externally at donor meetings, site visits, networking events, and conferences to build visibility and credibility with funders. Bachelor's degree required and 10+ years of related experience. In addition, the ideal candidate will possess the following skills, abilities and competencies: * Experience devising and implementing cultivation and solicitation strategies * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, strong work ethic and strategic thinking skills * Proficiency in data entry, data management and reporting * Ability to motivate, engage, influence and work collaboratively with diverse internal and external audiences in a variety of situations * Entrepreneurial, conscientious and results-oriented work style, with motivation to learn and display flexibility in a changing environment * Experience with Blackbaud CRM (or Raiser's Edge), Microsoft Office Suite, and video conferencing platforms (Zoom and Teams) preferred * Strong management skills and proven ability to manage within a team and influence others, required.
