Job Summary The Senior Category Specialist - Supply Chain is an experienced individual contributor who supports and drives value through category management and supplier relationship management. This role partners closely with internal stakeholders to optimize supply chain performance across assigned categories by leveraging data-driven insights, strategic sourcing, and continuous improvement initiatives. As a subject matter expert, the Senior Category Specialist leads complex sourcing and analytical efforts, contributes to long-term category strategies, and may mentor junior team members while helping to establish and advance best practices across the function. Key Responsibilities
Lead category-level analysis to identify performance trends, cost savings, operational inefficiencies, and strategic opportunities Support and lead end-to-end category performance reviews, delivering measurable improvements in cost, service, and efficiency Lead strategic sourcing and RFx events for medium to large, complex projects; serve as the sourcing subject matter expert for assigned categories Develop, communicate, and present data-driven insights and recommendations to senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders Participate in and support category plan initiatives, including strategic sourcing, supplier optimization, and supply chain excellence programs Develop and execute medium-complexity negotiation strategies; participate in more complex negotiations as directed by the Category Manager Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align category strategies with broader supply chain and business objectives Conduct root cause analysis of supply chain disruptions and implement sustainable corrective actions Support strategic supply chain initiatives such as network optimization, inventory modeling, and scenario planning Build cost models and perform detailed spend analysis using spreadsheets, data organization, and visualizations to identify savings or cost-avoidance opportunities Create reports and presentations on supplier performance, spend analytics, and market trends Review, analyze, and approve purchase requests with established suppliers in alignment with category strategies Understand savings and operational targets; develop and execute action plans to meet or exceed goals Perform responsibilities consistent with those of a Category Analyst Complete other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications: Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Law, or a related field; Advanced degree (JD or Master's) preferred Equivalent combination of education and 4+ years of relevant experience may be considered 3-6 years of experience in supply chain, procurement, category management, or contract management, preferably in a supply chain environment
Skills & Competencies
Strong analytical skills with the ability to define problems, analyze data, and develop well-supported conclusions Demonstrated knowledge of strategic sourcing methodologies and category management practices Proven negotiation skills across multiple commodities or workstreams Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present to senior leadership Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; strong skills in PowerPoint and Word Experience building cost models, analyzing spend, and interpreting market and supplier data Working knowledge of contract management and contract risk mitigation Familiarity with procurement and ERP systems (PeopleSoft, Ariba, or similar) Excellent planning, organizational, and time-management skills Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt quickly in a changing environment Demonstrated ability to execute independently and deliver results with minimal supervision Strong collaboration skills and the ability to build strategic working relationships Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment
Preferred Qualifications
Supply chain or procurement experience within the utility industry Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), or willingness to obtain upon hire

Salary Range*: $82,200.00 - $123,200.00
