Position Summary

This position is a term appointment ending 6/30/28, subject to availability of additional funding. Due to budgetary constraints, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

The UNM Health Sciences Library & Informatics Center and School of Medicine's Department of Neuroscience are looking for someone innovative with experience in data curation and data science, who is excited to advance our understanding of the brain by building more robust data analytic pipelines.

The Department of Neurosciences works with numerous types of clinical and preclinical data, including: EEG, electrophysiology, microscopy, and OMICs datasets. The successful candidate will work closely with Neurosciences researchers to develop innovative solutions for research data management, curation, and sharing. The candidate will use tools such as SQL, Python, and GitHub to create and maintain novel solutions for data curation, organization, and dissemination to support cutting-edge research.

Duties include:

  • Consults with and advises Department of Neurosciences researchers on preparing and managing data to meet regulatory and funder requirements for data sharing, research transparency, and rigor.
  • Assists in designing novel solutions for data curation, organization, and dissemination to support cutting-edge research.
  • Designs, develops, and maintains reproducible data workflows.
  • Develops data pipelines, scripts, and high-quality metadata to support research replication and transparency.
  • Addresses a variety of data integration issues including migration of data between disparate sources and conversion to neurosciences-specific data standards, such as those established by Neurodata Without Borders.
  • Provides support for version control through adoption of Git-based tools and code archiving.
  • Assists in migration of data to repositories, databases, and electronic lab notebooks.
  • Assists with utilization of LabArchives for organizing and sharing research data.
  • Supervises and trains up to six students in the management of research data and creation of reproducible data pipelines.
  • Collaborates with university IT to ensure that solutions meet local requirements for data security and privacy protections.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of progressively responsible experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution and/or experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; at least 2 years of progressively responsible experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution and/or experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Programming fluency in Python, R, SQL, and/or other programming language(s).
  • Experience with software version control and use of Git-based tools.
  • Experience with managing and curating large, complex datasets.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Experience using electronic lab notebooks, such as LabArchives.
  • Experience working in a research or academic setting.
  • Experience supervising staff and/or students.


Additional Requirements
This position is a term appointment with an anticipated ending date of 6/30/28. Continuance beyond that date is subject to the availability of additional funding.
