Every day, more than 80,000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.

Could you be the Customer Communications Specialist at Newark Liberty International Airport we're looking for?

Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your real-time communication skills in a fast-paced, operational environment that directly impacts the traveling public. You'll work onsite at Newark Liberty International Airport alongside dedicated, responsive, and collaborative operations and maintenance teams, helping ensure accurate and timely information is shared during both normal and irregular AirTrain operations.

You'll play a critical role in keeping passengers, airport stakeholders, and emergency responders informed-especially during service disruptions-so they can make confident, well-informed decisions. Day-to-day, you'll work closely with Central Control, Operations, Maintenance, and airport partners, supporting safe, reliable, and customer-focused service.

We'll look to you for:

  • Communicating real-time service information to passengers during irregular operations, including train directions, delays, and alternate transportation options
  • Delivering clear, timely announcements via phone, radio, intercom, train, and station public address systems
  • Ensuring passengers onboard trains and at stations receive consistent, accurate updates to support their travel needs
  • Coordinating closely with the Duty Foreman and monitoring recovery operations to relay live status updates
  • Supporting non-technical administrative tasks, including:

    • Asset reviews at switch operating platforms, APM rooms, and company vehicles
    • Reviewing video footage to identify visible infrastructure concerns (e.g., damaged covers or signs of arcing)
    • Assisting with initial system availability reviews using the Newark Availability Reporting Tool (NART)

  • Verifying communication equipment readiness by performing daily sound checks on trains, stations, and emergency call systems
  • Working collaboratively with other Customer Communications Specialists to maintain continuous coverage across shifts

All about you

We value passion, accountability, and a proactive mindset over having every qualification on day one. To succeed and grow in this role, you'll bring:

  • A high school diploma or GED (required)
  • A valid state driver's license (required)
  • Strong verbal communication skills and confidence speaking to large and diverse audiences
  • The ability to react instinctively and decisively when time-sensitive information must be shared immediately
  • A calm, focused approach in high-pressure or rapidly changing operational situations
  • The ability to work effectively within a structured environment and follow established communication and operational protocols
  • Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and teamwork when working with operations, maintenance, airport staff, and emergency responders

Physical and job-related requirements

  • Ability to distinguish colors, as required for safety systems, equipment indicators, and visual alerts
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as part of assigned duties
  • Ability to work on-site in an operational airport and transit environment, including walking, standing, and accessing stations and equipment areas

Pay, shifts, and union information

  • Hourly rate: $21.10 per hour
  • Shift differential: An additional 10% for 2nd or 3rd shift
  • Union position: This role is represented by a labor union and covered by a collective bargaining agreement
  • This is a shift-based position, including nights, weekends, and holidays, aligned with 24/7 AirTrain operations

Things you'll enjoy

Join us on a life-long transformative journey-the rail and airport mobility industry is here to stay, so you can build long-term stability while developing valuable operational experience. You'll also:

  • Enjoy a structured role with clear responsibilities and visible impact
  • Work in a dynamic airport environment supporting thousands of daily travelers
  • Collaborate with experienced, supportive colleagues across operations and maintenance
  • Contribute directly to passenger experience, safety, and system reliability
  • Benefit from transparent pay and working conditions under a union agreement

You don't need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We guarantee that when you step onto one of our systems with friends or family, you'll be proud of the role you play. If you're up for the challenge, we'd love to hear from you!
