Grading Field Manager (SCDOT capable)-FM0426
Sanders Brothers Construction is seeking an experienced Field Manager, with DOT capabilities, to join our growing and evolving team. The Grading Field Manager (SCDOT experienced) is responsible for leading field operations across multiple projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, and within budget. This role requires strong leadership, extensive knowledge of infrastructure construction, and experience working on South Carolina DOT (SCDOT) projects.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Reports directly to Grading Area Manager
- Demonstrates the ability to operate all types of heavy equipment, including dozers and excavators
- Constructs and grades roads, pads, and retention ponds to required specifications
- Demonstrates the ability to manage employees and equipment to maintain production goals
- Works independently with minimal supervision
- Coordinates trucking needs with trucking management
- Performs equipment inspections and reports utilization daily
- Produces and approves SCDOT-compliant daily logs
- Attends coordination and progress meetings
- Coordinates with inspectors, engineers, and testing firms
- Monitors project schedule and budget performance
- Responsible for quality control and equipment utilization
- Maintains clean, safe job sites
- Complies with all SBCC policies and safety requirements
- Maintains accountability for daily jobsite activities
- Manages crews and subcontractors
- Completes punch lists and project closeout items
- Demonstrates knowledge of SCDOT specifications and standards
- Knowledge of erosion control and SWPPP requirements
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- High school diploma/GED required
- 10+ years of infrastructure construction experience
- 5+ years involved with management of SCDOT projects.
- 5+ years leadership experience
- Must obtain a negative drug test result prior to hire and maintain throughout term of employment
- Capable of reading and interpreting job specific plans, specifications and special provisions for each project. Including, not limited to commercial, DOT, and residential.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, crews and equipment effectively and efficiently.
- Ability to recognize and resolve potential delays prior to conflict having an impact on the critical path
- Capable of setting up and programming GPS devices for equipment and rovers.
- Must meet SBCC's employment standards regarding background checks.
- Must have a valid driver's license and provide 3-year motor vehicle record which meets the minimum operating standards in accordance with SBCC vehicle operation policy.
- Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 40 pounds of force regularly to move objects.
- Ability to regularly lift 50 pounds.
- Must have the ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Flexible availability to include work hours needed to meet schedule, including nights, and weekends.
- Work environments will vary, making it necessary to tolerate weather conditions, such as rain and extreme temperatures. Employees may be exposed to dust, dirt, varying temperatures, loud noises, etc.
- Personnel Management through effective communication.
- Ability to effectively communicate with all types of individuals involved in construction projects.
- Demonstrate authority to direct all field personnel and crews on site.
- Understanding of all areas involved in projects including utilities, grading, asphalt paving, estimating, concrete, trucking and subcontractor work with the ability to ensure quality and scheduling needs.
- Ability to develop coworkers/subordinates of all levels
- Must be able to calculate quantities/yield for all job site materials
- Demonstrate a proactive standard regarding the management of projects, personnel, and equipment.
- Ability to manage subcontractors effectively
Preferred Skills
- Ability to set up MM, and LPS systems.
- Knowledge of asphalt pavement process.
- Bachelor's degree.
