Covia is looking for a dynamic Utility employee who will have a positive impact on our team at our Menomonie, WI location. The Utility Operator is accountable to ensure the safe and productive operation of the plant and must possess aptitude for multiple disciplines and be proficient in the operation of equipment associated with all functional areas within the plant. The Utility employee also backfills all operator positions within the plant for planned and unplanned absences and assists the maintenance crew as required.

The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:



  • Work in a safe manner and abide by all Covia and MSHA safety rules, regulations and best practices.
  • Carry out the activities in a way that does not expose the worker or someone else to an unacceptable level of risk.
  • Adhere to site procedures and instructions given by supervisors.
  • Operate mobile and stationary equipment in a safe manner which is most efficient and reduces damage, downtime, and quality issues.
  • Complete required paperwork in an orderly, accurate, and professional fashion.
  • Be physically capable of performing job duties which include but are not limited to:

    • Be capable of walking on uneven ground and up and downhills.
    • Be capable of climbing ladders and working at height.
    • Be capable of wearing a respirator, safety harness, safety glasses, hard hat and other Personnel Protective Equipment.
    • Be capable of working in year-round outdoor conditions which include hot, cold and wet weather.
    • Be capable of push, pull, lift and carry 50 pounds on a continuous basis.


  • Perform preventive maintenance activities and assist in minor and major maintenance repair activities as directed.
  • Assist with any continuous improvement projects as necessary.
  • Perform all other duties as needed or assigned.



The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:



  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience in an industrial environment is a plus.
  • Basic computer skills and data entry are required
  • Prior HMI and shipping software experience is a plus.
  • Previous experience operating heavy equipment is a plus.
  • Previous experience within mining operations a plus.
  • Must possess the ability to perform in a physically demanding environment.
  • Qualified candidates must be available for shift work, weekends and overtime.
