The salary range for this position is $93,700 - $145,700. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment.

This position may include membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, which provides eligibility for additional compensation.

Position description

The Office of Medical Education and the Department of Physiology & Biophysics are seeking a Course Director and Basic Science Faculty Educator with demonstrated excellence in teaching. In this year-round position, the Basic Science Faculty Educator's time will be equally divided between course direction and teaching responsibilities for the Physiology/Immunology course and hands-on teaching responsibilities for the Gross Anatomy and Embryology course.

The Course Director and Basic Science Faculty Educator position will:

* Deliver an effective Physiology/Immunology course that optimizes horizontal integration amongst pre-clerkship courses

* Expand vertical integration of physiology/immunology topics within the course and collaborate with clinicians

* Provide meaningful formative feedback to students throughout the course, in addition to creating high-quality summative assessments

* Develop innovative approaches to physiology/immunology education using technology-enhanced instruction, medical devices or digital health tools, team-based learning, simulations, large- and small-group teaching, and case-based learning.

* Work collaboratively with the Gross Anatomy and Embryology co-directors to create high-quality hands-on small group dissections for the students during the first-year course, summer remediation programs, or other anatomical training courses

* Assist in the creation and delivery of longitudinal basic science course content taught to upper level medical students, graduate students, or other trainees.

* Additional responsibilities include working with our academic success and support teams, service to the institution, and scholarly activity in medical education.

This position will report to the Chair of the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, Vice Dean of Medical Education, the Senior Associate Dean of Clinical Science Education and Educational Technology, and the Associate Dean of Basic Science Education.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

* Terminal degree (PhD or equivalent) in Physiology or a related discipline

* Minimum of two years of teaching experience in graduate or medical education

* Demonstrated effectiveness across multiple organ systems and in collaborative educational environments

* Gross Anatomy lab teaching experience preferred. Faculty development will be provided to individuals who require additional training.
