| Primary Purpose of the Organization: |
The Department of Biological and Forensic Sciences offers a Bachelor of Science in Biology with concentrations in Pre-Health, Organismal Biology, and Molecular Biology/Biotechnology, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science. The Department is an academic unit within the Lloyd College of Health, Science, and Technology and serves a diverse student population, including first-generation college students, adult learners, military-affiliated students, and international students. Through effective teaching, active scholarships, academic mentoring, and service-learning activities, the Department is committed to student success and academic excellence. In addition to its major programs, the Department offers minor programs in Biology, Biotechnology, and Data Science. The Department currently enrolls more than 500 undergraduate students and is supported by approximately twenty (20) tenured, tenure-track, and lecturer faculty members.
The mission of the Department of Biological and Forensic Sciences is to provide high-quality, student-centered academic programs and rigorous undergraduate coursework in the biological and forensic sciences. The Department seeks to broaden students' scientific knowledge, foster critical thinking skills, and prepare graduates for informed career decision-making while remaining strongly committed to the discovery, application, and dissemination of scientific knowledge.
Through innovative instruction, undergraduate research opportunities, and community outreach, the Department's diverse and highly qualified faculty prepare students for careers in government, industry, health-related professions, education, and advanced study in graduate and professional programs.
Continued growth in enrollment across Biology, Nursing, Mathematics, and Cybersecurity-related programs has created an increasing demand for instructional capacity, particularly in foundational biology courses and corresponding laboratory sections. To meet this demand, the Department remains dedicated to expanding teaching resources while maintaining excellence in instruction and student support.

| Primary Purpose of the Position: |
The Department of Biological and Forensic Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position, effective Fall 2026. The successful candidate will hold a doctoral degree in Biology or a closely related discipline and will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service.
The position will be responsible for teaching a range of courses within the Biology Program, including Anatomy and Physiology, Vertebrate Physiology, Microbiology, Zoology, Botany, and General Biology, and for developing and offering new courses that support departmental and institutional needs. Additional responsibilities include advising and mentoring undergraduate students, participating in departmental, college, and university service activities, and contributing to the development of collaborative partnerships with local, regional, and professional organizations.
The expectation is to establish and maintain an active, externally funded research program that meaningfully engages undergraduate students in scholarly activities. Research productivity and the pursuit of extramural funding are essential components of this position. To support research development and successful transition into the faculty role, newly appointed tenure-track Assistant Professors will receive a 20% reduction in annual teaching responsibilities during the first two years of their probationary appointment. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: |
- Ph.D. in Biology or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrate a record of excellence in teaching, scholarly research, and service appropriate to the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor.
- Evidence of effective undergraduate instruction, research productivity or research potential, and meaningful academic or professional service is expected.

| Preferred Qualifications: |
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching Human Anatomy and Physiology, Comparative Anatomy, Vertebrate Physiology, Microbiology, and General Biology at the undergraduate and/or graduate level in a university or community college setting.
- The ability to teach General Zoology and General Botany is highly desirable.
