Under supervision and direction of Gourley ISF Team Supervisor, assist in facilitating didactic and clinical teaching activities at the Gourley Clinical Teaching Center (GCTC) with the evening ISF Team. Conduct animal procurement, specimen preparation, maintaining supplies and equipment, minor animal husbandry duties, administration of treatments per clinician orders, set-up and clean-up of live animal and cadaver student didactic labs. RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the apply by date. Department Overview The Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) graduate program is the largest graduate program at UC Davis with an annual enrollment of 600 professional students. The program is consistently ranked as one of the top in the world for veterinary science Department Specific Job Scope The Veterinary Medicine Dean's Office of Professional Education provides instructional support for the School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM). Headed by the Associate Dean for Professional Education, the unit provides instructional support for the School of Veterinary Medicine. The Gourley Clinical Teaching Center is a 42,000 square foot facility within the School of Veterinary program that allows for the teaching of anesthesia, ultrasound, dentistry, clinical skills, and surgery to the DVM students, using live animals, cadaver specimens, and teaching models. The GCTC houses dogs, cats, horses, cows, goats, sheep, pigs, rabbits, rodents, and reptiles, operates 365 days a year, and shifts vary starting as early as 6:00am and ending as late as 10:00 or 11:00pm. There are over 700 lab sessions conducted at the GCTC each academic year and the facility houses and cares for the canine and feline Teaching Colonies used in the DVM curriculum. The GCTC team is comprised of a Staff Veterinarian, the GCTC Manager, the Instructional Support Facilitation team of 1 Animal Care Supervisor (ACS I) and 6 Animal Health Technicians, the ISSLAC, the CSS Small Animal Teaching Colony and Shelter Animal Coordinator, the Curricular Support team of 5 Animal Health Technicians, 3-10 undergraduate student assistants, and 20-25 student walkers. Work in high traffic areas with constant noise from animals and people in a fast-paced, constantly changing, and heavy volume patient-care environment. May require working with or around areas with sick animals, hazardous materials, and/or infectious diseases, and distraught students and staff. Work in an environment where animals are used for teaching. Work with animal cadavers and in animal shelter environments. Work with preserved animal specimens. Position will participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System.
