About the Job

The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences is seeking a laboratory assistant (Research Professional 1) that will support research activities in a translational neuroengineering laboratory focused on developing and testing novel neuromodulation technologies. This role involves conducting benchtop and in vivo electrophysiology experiments and maintaining laboratory operations to ensure a safe, efficient, and compliant research environment.

This position is full time for 1 year.

Job Responsibilities/Duties:

Experimental Support, Neural Data, and Electrophysiology 60%
*Perform experiments supporting translational neuroscience and neuroengineering research projects.
*Assist with animal-based research, including preparation, processing, and analysis of neural data.
*Support electrophysiology experiments, including setup, sample preparation, data collection, and post-experiment cleanup.
*Run analyses and prepare experimental and control samples on various laboratory instruments and analytical platforms.
*Generate sample/control and neural data analysis reports.
*Responsible for generating, recording, organizing, and analyzing experimental and electrophysiological data.

Laboratory Operations and Equipment 30%
*Prepare and set up laboratory spaces and equipment for research projects, including electrophysiology and neural recording systems.
*Oversee proper use of laboratory equipment, including training personnel and volunteers on standard operating procedures and best practices.
*Maintain laboratory instruments, neural recording equipment, and clean equipment; coordinate routine maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
*Assist with purchasing laboratory supplies and equipment; manage inventory and restocking.

Compliance, Safety, and Maintenance 5%
*Perform routine laboratory cleanup.
*Replenish supplies as needed and ensure laboratories are properly prepared for experiments.
*Handle, segregate, and remove hazardous, biological, and chemical waste in compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements.

Communication and Reporting 5%
*Prepare and deliver presentations reporting experimental results, electrophysiology findings, and animal neural data analyses at lab meetings or project updates.
*Collaborate with lab members to support project goals, timelines, and data integrity.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

*BA/BS degree or a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal four years.
*Experience working in a laboratory environment.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: Salary range is $23-$25/hour, depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment for 1 year
