Job Summary

Performs advanced repairs, installations, and preventive maintenance on medical equipment and systems. This role includes conducting equipment evaluations, providing technical consultations, and participating in technology management. The technician will work under minimal supervision, collaborating with customers and team members to optimize equipment performance and minimize downtime. Strong problem-solving skills, technical expertise, and customer service abilities are crucial for this position. Periodic local travel may be required to support health system-wide maintenance activities.

Essential Functions
  • Repairs and Maintenance: Perform electronic, electrical, and mechanical repairs/corrective maintenance on medical equipment, including specialized physiological life support and non-life support devices. Ensure timely and quality repairs to maintain equipment readiness for departmental use. Coordinate repairs with vendors and departments as needed.
  • Scheduled Maintenance: Conduct scheduled maintenance on various types of medical equipment and systems, including specialized systems. Adhere to maintenance schedules to optimize equipment use and dependability for employees and medical staff, ensuring a safe environment for patients. Ensure required preventive maintenance (PM) is completed in compliance with established job plans and procedures.
  • Equipment Evaluation and Consultation: Perform equipment evaluations, contribute to technology assessments, provide technical consultations, and conduct in-servicing of patient-related equipment. Attend meetings, seminars, and in-services. Provide data management to ensure accuracy in the equipment database. Assist in capital asset management with customer departments and perform project work. Provide assistance from pre-purchase evaluation through capital asset disposal.
  • Installations and Inspections: Perform installations and incoming inspections. Coordinate installations with vendors when required and validate vendor actions. Inventory and Documentation: Order repair parts and manuals, recommend spares to add to inventory, and maintain service documentation. Provide accurate, complete, and timely information to the computerized maintenance database, including precise work order and labor reporting, along with detailed work order remarks describing actions taken. Preventive Maintenance Procedures: Write preventive maintenance testing procedures as needed.

Autonomous Decision Making: Under minimal supervision, work with and for customers, responsible for the installation, replacement, repair, and support of medical and non-medical healthcare-related equipment and their systems. Serve as a resource for technology projects and initiatives. Problem Identification and Resolution: Act as the primary point of contact for problem identification and the driver for issue resolution. Begin troubleshooting any medical or non-medical device, with the understanding that oversight by a vendortrained colleague will usually be available if needed. Develop appropriate related documentation and know when to escalate issues for additional support.
  • Recall and Alert Coordination: Coordinate the medical device recall and alert process, from receipt through compliance signoff. Training and Expertise: Participate in medical equipment training provided by vendors and use that knowledge to provide onthe-job training to other technicians. Serve as the subject matter expert on that equipment. Testing and Prototyping: Test and evaluate new medical or non-medical equipment and work with others to implement prototypes. Administrative Responsibilities: Monitor, process, and document work orders. Maintain knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and medical device repair. Handle administrative components of inventory management, including product ordering, shipping, receiving, and inventory control On-Call Program: Participate in the on-call program.
Qualifications

Required

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent or Certified Associate in Biomedical Technology (CABT)
  • 2 years of relevant experience supporting Biomedical Electronics or equivalent
  • Understanding of electronic, electrical, and mechanical systems
  • Ability to diagnose and repair basic equipment issues
  • Able to work in an on-call rotation about 4-5 times per year
