Position Summary
Under the direction of the VP, Chief Pharmacy & Therapeutics Officer, the Associate Chief Pharmacy Officer (ACPO) provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for clinical pharmacy programs and pharmacy operations at Boston Children's Hospital. This role advances clinical excellence, medication safety, and quality outcomes across the enterprise while ensuring value and return on investment.

The ACPO translates organizational priorities into departmental strategy, develops actionable plans and leads execution of both short- and long-term initiatives. This leader oversees multiple pharmacy service lines, drives continuous improvement in the safe, effective, and efficient use of medications, and strengthens the department's clinical, academic, and research missions.

A central responsibility of this role is building a strong, cohesive pharmacy leadership team. The ACPO promotes a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth; mentors emerging leaders; and ensures the department has the leadership capacity to support current and future needs.

Additional responsibilities include leading pharmacy automation and facility planning initiatives, managing financial and human resources, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and certification standards. The ACPO serves as Acting Chief Pharmacy Officer as needed and champions a high-performing workforce aligned with the hospital's mission and values.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership for clinical pharmacy programs, ensuring excellence in medication safety, quality, and patient outcomes
  • Align departmental strategy with organizational goals to enhance patient care, safety, and satisfaction
  • Lead growth and expansion of pharmacy services, including innovative care models, technology adoption, and staffing strategies that demonstrate measurable value
  • Oversee multiple pharmacy programs and serve as Acting Chief Pharmacy Officer as needed
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop pharmacy leaders; foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous learning
  • Establish performance goals, allocate resources, and direct departmental operations, policies, and standards
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and quality standards through performance improvement initiatives
  • Oversee budget management, labor productivity, inventory control, and automation to optimize efficiency and cost effectiveness
  • Support and expand residency, academic, and research programs
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with physician, nursing, and administrative leadership to support integrated, high-quality care
  • Provide oversight across hospital and community-based sites; occasional travel required
  • Participate in leadership on-call responsibilities
Required Qualifications
  • BS in Pharmacy and/or PharmD from an ACPE-accredited institution
  • Active MA pharmacist licensure
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressively advanced hospital pharmacy leadership experience; academic medical center and pediatric experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple pharmacists and pharmacy leaders
  • Ability to influence and gain alignment across stakeholders to achieve strategic objective
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex clinical and technical information
  • Expertise in applying regulatory and quality standards to develop and implement operational programs
  • Proven ability to manage multiple programs, priorities, and diverse teams
  • Strong resource management skills aligned with organizational mission and goals
  • Demonstrated success translating strategic plans into operational execution
  • Leadership capability to guide, mentor, and develop multi-layered teams; lead change and drive engagement
  • Experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation
  • Strong analytical skills in clinical, scientific, and operational domains

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.

Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
