| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Winston Center on Technology and Brain Development at the University of North Carolina conducts rigorous scientific research to understand the impact of technology on the developing mind and brain. Our research on the role of technology in brain development drives an international movement that prioritizes human wellbeing within human-tech interaction. As a pan-campus research center, we seek to facilitate transdisciplinary studies, discussions, and the dissemination of information to support work across multiple fields of study. |
| Position Summary |
This position will serve as the Center Manager for the Winston National Center ('the Center') on Technology Use, Brain, and Psychological Development, co-directed by Dr. Eva Telzer and Dr. Mitch Prinstein, within the College of Arts & Sciences. The Center will support activities related to the Center's five-pronged mission concerned with the effects of technology and social media use on teen social and emotional development: (1) an Educational Mission; (2) Outreach; (3) Research; (4) Public Health; and (5) Adolescent/Emerging Adult Involvement. The Winston National Center creates tools for parents, caregivers and teens to make better informed choices about how they interact with technology and social media.
The Winston Center Manager will work with faculty, graduate students, postdocs, and research staff to provide support for the mission of the Winston National Center. This support will cover a wide array of responsibilities, including marketing, event planning, budget management, report writing, financial management, personnel administration, and facilities management.
Responsibilities will include:
- Serving as the lead administrative staff member assisting the center co-directors in all aspects of the day-to-day management of the center.
- Tracking and maintaining the budget.
- Working with the College's HR Shared Services to create positions, recruit. applicants, and hire postdoctoral scholars, fixed-term research faculty, and SHRA staff for the Center.
- Onboarding and training new undergraduate students, graduate researchers, staff, and postdoctoral students in the Center.
- Creating, maintaining, and updating a website and social media accounts to disseminate Center's efforts to the public.
- Planning and overseeing events on behalf of the Center, which will include conferences and professional meetings with faculty, researchers, development officers from the Arts & Sciences Foundation, and private donors.
- Track and prepare reports on center activities including research publications, presentations and talks at conferences; outreach activities, and media communications such as UNC news articles, press releases, stories in the national media relevant to the center.
- Serving as a key member of the Winston National Center team and providing support on administrative tasks related to running a multi-million-dollar research center.

| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. |
| Management Preferences |
Background in Psychology, Neuroscience, or related field is preferred.
Management experience is preferred either in a research, university, or customer service setting. |
