The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary
- The Taub Institute and Sergievsky Center seek a Data Manager to support several federally funded, multi-center studies. Reporting to the Principal Investigator and Project Manager, the incumbent will manage the storage, querying, and integration of genetics and clinical data. This role includes proactively assessing database hardware and software to improve efficiency and performance, and recommending and implementing upgrades to support project goals and activities. The Data Manager will adhere to university policies, technical standards, and best practices to ensure operational excellence
Responsibilities
- Managing the storage and querying of various genetics data (GWAS, WES, WGS).
- Linking genetics to clinical data.
- Testing programs or databases, correcting errors, and making necessary modifications.
- Specifying users and user access levels for each segment of the database.
- Writing and coding logical and physical database descriptions and specifying identifiers of the database to the management system, or directing others in coding descriptions.
- Working as part of a project team to coordinate database development and determine project scope and limitations.
- Reviewing procedures in database system manuals for making changes to the database.
- Reviewing data requests with the Project Manager to estimate time required to accomplish projects.
- Performing quality control on data requests and working with the Project Manager before distributing to investigators and/or analysts.
- Maintaining database systems for various genetic projects.
- Assisting with the development and implementation of tools for genetics analysis.
- Performing quality control, assembly, annotation, and analysis of genetic subtyping data.
- Fulfilling required IRB compliance trainings.
- Working with analysts and other subject matter experts in the merging and quality control of incoming and outgoing data.
- Independently providing feedback to database users.
- Preparing reports and data files as requested.
- Managing and performing quality control on data for various genetic projects; and inventory of the laboratory database.
- Assisting with laboratory projects by creating properly structured working files.
- Performing other related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four (4) years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
* 2-4 years of experience in database management.
* Master of Science degree in a scientific discipline related to the responsibilities of the position (i. e. Bioinformatics, CS, Biology, Microbiology, etc.)
* Extensive SQL and MS Excel knowledge
* Experience working with Clinical and genomic data.
* Experience maintaining data using MS Excel, SPSS, and Progeny.
* Experience with MS Excel VBA, Shell Script, AWK.
* Familiarity with sequenced and Multiomics data.
* Ability to work independently and yet to maintain the flexibility to respond to requests for support of ongoing projects.
