Principal Program Manager, Research Grants

What We Seek

We are seeking a visionary and results-driven Implementation Leader to spearhead the deployment of our cutting-edge Lenses on Literature program. This high-impact role involves leading a federally-funded, large-scale randomized controlled trial across approximately 120 middle schools in Kentucky, Maine, and Florida.

The ideal candidate will be an expert in secondary literacy instruction and large-scale instructional implementation initiatives. You will be responsible for coordinating the successful rollout of core components-including high-quality instructional materials (HQIM), teacher professional learning, and high-impact tutoring-while serving as the key liaison among multi-state partners and the external evaluation team (WestEd). This position requires a proven ability to navigate complex partnerships, manage multiple streams of work, monitor implementation fidelity, and build sustainable instructional improvement systems with school and district leaders. If you are passionate about improving student literacy outcomes and have experience coordinating implementation within research initiatives, we invite you to join our mission.

What Your Day Will Look Like

  • Program Implementation & Management

    • Lead the comprehensive implementation of the Lenses program across approximately 120 middle schools in Kentucky, Maine, and Florida.
    • Coordinate the successful rollout of core program components, including high-quality instructional materials (HQIM), teacher professional learning, instructional leadership development, and tutoring integration.
    • Support school and district leaders in establishing the necessary implementation structures and continuous improvement routines (e.g., Plan-Do-Study-Act or PDSA cycles).
    • Monitor implementation progress and fidelity, proactively addressing challenges and ensuring alignment with EIR grant goals and timelines.

  • Professional Learning & Instructional Support

    • Partner with Carnegie Learning teams to plan, coordinate, and ensure the high-quality delivery of all implementation supports (e.g., launch institutes, workshops, PLCs, and coaching).
    • Ensure that professional learning experiences align with the Lenses implementation model, teacher competency progression, and grant research requirements.
    • Coordinate high-impact tutoring cycles for identified students and facilitate leadership sessions focused on instructional improvement.
    • Support educators and leaders in analyzing student work and instructional data to drive improvements in literacy instruction.

  • Research Study Coordination & Data Fidelity

    • Serve as the primary collaborator with the external evaluation partner (WestEd) to support the randomized controlled trial evaluating Lenses on Literature.
    • Monitor and document implementation fidelity-including curriculum use, professional learning participation, and tutoring dosage-to ensure study quality and integrity.
    • Review key implementation indicators (e.g., curriculum unit completion, PLC participation, scoring calibration) and coordinate support to resolve implementation challenges.

  • Partnership & Stakeholder Coordination

    • Serve as the key liaison among project partners (KEDC, Maine Department of Education, Impact Florida, and WestEd) and participating districts and schools.
    • Support Instructional Leadership Teams (ILTs) and leaders in building internal capacity for sustainable instructional improvement systems.
    • Participate in and facilitate cross-partner planning and implementation meetings, communicating regularly regarding progress and findings.

  • Experience working with research or evaluation initiatives in education

Preferred qualifications include:

  • PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in education, literacy, or a related field
