Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Laboratory Research Assistant - Casual for the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy. This position will provide research assistance to Dr. Suzie Chen and Dr. Wei-Xing Zong for their collaboration titled, "Characterization of unique gene identified from CRIPSPR/Cas9 screen in interleukin-3-dependent B-cell lymphoma cells". The Laboratory Research Assistant - Casual will participate in cancer research by providing laboratory and/or technical support duties involving the application of scientific research methods and techniques.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Performs multistage purifications including accurately making solutions and buffers.
  • Homogenizes mouse tissues and prepares protein lysates for western immunoblots.
  • Determines protein concentration on samples.
  • Prepares samples for SDS gels and runs SDS polyacrylamide gels.
  • Performs Western blots and probing with primary and secondary antibodies.
  • Analyzes the western blots and decides on the follow up experiments.
  • Maintains cultured cells.
  • Derives individual clones with tagged protein markers.
  • Characterizes the clones and selects the most appropriate ones to test in vivo.
  • Keeps an orderly notebook of all experiments and tracking tissue/protein lysate samples stored in freezers and cell clones in liquid nitrogen.
  • Writes up results for publication.

FLSA Nonexempt
Salary Details $30.00 per hour

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific/technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant laboratory technician or research study experience carrying out research protocols and tests, or other technical work may be substituted for the degree.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Practical understanding and a working knowledge of basic scientific techniques.
  • Proper use of the laboratory balance and understanding and use of the mole concept.
  • Ability to record and maintain data in computerized and non-computerized formats and write up results for publication.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to participate in required occupational health and safety programs.
  • Ability to learn and apply jobspecific techniques through structured training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant science or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
