Project Director - Power & Data Center Construction

Building on our past. Ready for the future.
Worley is a global professional services company of energy, chemicals and resources experts. We partner with customers to deliver projects and create value over the life of their assets. We're bridging two worlds, moving towards more sustainable energy sources, while helping to provide the energy, chemicals and resources needed now.

Play an integral role in shaping and delivering some of the most complex and high-impact power infrastructure projects in the market. As Project Director, you will lead the successful execution of large-scale simple cycle and combined cycle power projects alongside mission-critical data center construction programs. This role sits at the intersection of energy reliability and digital infrastructure-two sectors experiencing rapid global growth and transformation.

You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, working directly with senior stakeholders, customers, and project teams to ensure delivery excellence, commercial performance, and alignment with Worley's strategic objectives.

Purpose of the role

You will be responsible for providing overall leadership, direction, and governance across major power and data center construction projects. This includes full lifecycle accountability-from early-stage planning and contract interpretation through execution, commissioning, and closeout.

You will define project goals, align delivery strategies, and establish the operating framework to achieve schedule, cost, safety, and quality outcomes. The role requires deep understanding of EPC/EPCM delivery models, strong commercial acumen, and the ability to lead diverse, multi-disciplinary teams across complex environments.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide executive-level leadership across one or more large or mega projects, ensuring alignment with contractual obligations and client expectations
  • Define project execution strategies, delivery models, and governance frameworks to drive predictable outcomes
  • Lead and develop high-performing project teams through subordinate project managers and functional leaders
  • Maintain full accountability for project performance across safety, cost, schedule, quality, and risk
  • Establish strong client relationships, acting as the primary escalation point and trusted advisor
  • Interpret and manage complex commercial agreements, including joint ventures and high-value contracts
  • Drive effective decision-making on long-range planning, technical execution, and organizational priorities
  • Identify and mitigate project risks, ensuring robust controls and contingency strategies are in place
  • Champion continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence within project delivery
  • Support business development activities, including proposal leadership for major pursuits
  • Ensure compliance with Worley policies, procedures, and global standards across all project phases

What you'll bring to the role

You bring a pragmatic leadership style, grounded in real project delivery experience, with the ability to operate effectively in high-pressure, high-visibility environments. You understand how to balance technical complexity with commercial realities and stakeholder expectations.

Key qualifications and experience include:

  • Demonstrated experience delivering simple cycle and/or combined cycle power construction projects
  • Proven track record supporting or leading data center construction projects, ideally in mission-critical environments
  • Typically 20+ years of industry experience, including 15+ years in leadership roles across project management, construction, or engineering
  • Strong background in EPC and/or EPCM project delivery, including site-based leadership experience
  • Experience managing large or mega projects with significant risk, complexity, and stakeholder interfaces
  • Ability to lead within multi-cultural and multi-national project environments
  • Strong commercial acumen, including experience with complex contract structures and joint ventures
  • Proven ability to manage projects through indirect leadership structures, including multiple project managers or leads
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at executive levels
  • Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)

Preferred (but not essential):

  • Professional registration or chartership in a relevant discipline
  • Certification such as PMP (Project Management Institute), IPMA, or equivalent
