Primary Purpose Manages and monitors all spiritual care delivery by professional chaplains, chaplain residents, and chaplain interns to support the professional provision of religious, spiritual and emotional support for patients, their loved ones, and Parkland Health staff. Responsibilities 1. Assists Director with development, implementation, monitoring and revision of goals for Parkland's Spiritual Care program that supports the strategic goals and objectives of Parkland Health. 2. Assists with selection of permanent staff members and supervises and evaluates assigned staff to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities and optimum service to Parkland Health patients, their loved ones, and staff. 3. Responsible for developing and maintaining departmental staffing schedule to ensure the Spiritual Care Department is able to meet the spiritual and emotional needs throughout the hospital, including deaths, end of life situations, traumas, codes, family meetings, advance directive requests, and staff referrals. 4. Assists in revising policies and procedures as scheduled related to all aspects of spiritual care and ensures adherence. 5. If an ACPE Certified Educator, the role will assist Manager, Spiritual Education in supervising CPE students' ministry and learning through: facilitating group CPE seminars, teaching didactic material, providing individual supervision, and evaluating student performance for the purpose of enhancing ministry learning and improving interaction with patients and staff. 6. Stays abreast of latest developments in the field of spiritual care by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, and actively participating in professional organizations. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices and teaches staff new practices. 7. Attends educational events, participates in APC peer groups, and stays abreast of professional developments in order to maintain cutting edge educational program for Parkland Health. 8. Assists with spiritual care to patients and staff, including provision of decedent care, assistance with execution of Advance Directives, provision of pre-surgery coverage and on-call coverage when necessitated by department needs. 9. Maintains certification as an APC Board Certified Chaplain, ACPE Certified Educator (if applicable) and complies with the Common Code of Ethics for Spiritual Care Professionals.
