THE POSITION

Would you like to play a pivotal role in ensuring the Commonwealth's waterways thrive for generations to come? If so, the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is excited to welcome a diligent Water Program Specialist to become a key member of the Bureau of Watershed Restoration and Nonpoint Source, Chesapeake Bay Watershed Restoration Division. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Water Program Specialist, you will support the Central Office's Chesapeake Bay program through developing, interpreting, and implementing various policies, plans, and directives in relation to division initiatives. You will participate in creating and updating program planning manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), checklists, and policies, in addition to compiling detailed reports regarding the watershed implementation planning program.

You will be responsible for developing information gathering protocols in order to effectively implement Chesapeake Bay policies and regulations, and coordinating those protocols with county-based parties to develop and implement countywide action plans. Your work will also involve analyzing and presenting planning data and making recommendations for the implementation and evaluation of Pennsylvania's Phase 3 Watershed Implementation Plan (WIP). Furthermore, you will research emerging issues, survey other states' and federal programs, assesses industry trends, and prepare comprehensive reports of findings and recommendations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Travel is required to participate in conferences, meetings, and field site visits.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of professional environmental protection experience; and a bachelor's degree in the biological, physical, or environmental sciences, engineering, or in a field closely related to environmental protection or regulation; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes three years of professional environmental protection experience.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
