THE POSITION

The Clerical Assistant 2 in this position will play a key role in supporting the Reading District Office by delivering reliable clerical and administrative assistance under the direction of the Assistant Administrator or District Administrator. This position helps maintain smooth and efficient daily operations by managing essential office tasks and ensuring staff receive the support needed to keep the office running effectively. It is an ideal role for someone who is organized, detail-oriented, and committed to supporting a well-functioning work environment.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides essential clerical and administrative support that ensures the Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Services office operates efficiently and professionally. Responsibilities include creating and transcribing written documents, reviewing all typed materials for accuracy, and serving as the offices bilingual clerical resource by communicating with the public and translating forms and letters from English to Spanish. The role also involves screening incoming information for VR staff, preparing requests for medical records, and maintaining organized, confidential case files that meet program standards.


In addition, the position performs a wide range of operational tasks that contribute to smooth daily workflow. This includes inputting and retrieving information using computer systems, operating a variety of office equipment, and ensuring the timely and precise processing of all assigned work. Through strong attention to detail, accuracy, and dependable performance, this role supports an effective, responsive, and professional environment for both staff and clients.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Work hours are 8:00AM to 4:00PM, Monday thru Friday with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Reading, PA. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $36,108 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Graduation from high school; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

  • This position requires the selected candidate to be able to read, write, and speak in Spanish. You may be contacted for a Spanish speaking proficiency valuation conducted by the Bureau of Talent Acquisition, PA Office of Administration. If contacted, you must pass the speaking evaluation in order to be deemed eligible for this position. Your proficiency in reading and writing in Spanish must be demonstrated during the probationary period to achieve regular status in the position.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
