THE POSITION

The Environmental Protection Compliance Specialist position with the Department of Environmental Protection offers a chance to support important environmental goals across the Commonwealth. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position plays a key role in supporting environmental compliance and ensuring the accuracy of information used across waste management programs. The work involves reviewing data, coordinating activities, and assisting with enforcement processes. As an Environmental Protection Compliance Specialist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Data Entry Quality: Enter accurate information into electronic systems and use available tools to reduce errors
  • Compliance Support: Assist with implementing policies and procedures that help meet regulatory goals
  • System Knowledge: Use and test electronic data systems and technology tools to support program modernization efforts
  • Case Management: Track enforcement cases, maintain documentation, and prepare materials for legal or administrative actions
  • Guidance Development: Help create training materials, fact sheets, and resources for staff and the regulated community
  • Reporting Review: Monitor data in multiple systems and compile reports that guide program decisions

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position may require travel as needed.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of professional experience as a Sanitarian, Air Quality Specialist, Solid Waste Specialist, or Water Quality Specialist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training which affords the applicant the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
