DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides training in equipment operation and roadway maintenance through hands-on learning and supervised instruction. As a PennDOT CDL Operator Trainee, you will perform the following duties:

  • Equipment Training: Learn to operate heavy trucks, loaders, and other equipment used for highway and bridge work
  • Safety Procedures: Follow safety rules, use proper protective gear, and report hazards promptly
  • Manual Tasks: Use hand tools and power tools to complete maintenance work such as clearing debris and repairing barriers
  • Operational Checks: Perform and document pre and post operation inspections and make routine field adjustments
  • Tool Use: Install and remove tire chains and correctly handle various controls and equipment
  • Workplace Awareness: Assist in maintaining a safe environment for coworkers and the public

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit on the first day of work.
  • This position requires possession of a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of work.
