What to Expect

Telsa's Cell Engineering Team is looking for a highly motivated electrode engineer to accelerate our next generation battery cell products. This role will lead material validation and process development for Tesla dry battery electrode technology. In this role, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop early-stage concepts to production scaling activities.

The battery cell is a critical component in Tesla vehicles and energy storage systems. This role will have the opportunity to make impactful contributions to our products. The work environment is cutting-edge, fast paced and incredibly exciting. The ideal candidate will be ready to push their limits with a highly motivated and capable team to turn unbelievable things into reality.


What You'll Do
  • Lead electrode and process development for Tesla dry battery electrode
  • Design and validate new electrode material in lab scale process
  • Perform systematic electrode processing experiments using formulations to identify key parameters for control over electrode product quality and electrochemical performance
  • Analyze electrode performances and determine their relationship with materials and process parameters then take independent steps to iterate on electrode formulation and process improvement to reach target cell performance specifications
  • Document electrode processing parameters and communicate key learnings to cross-functional teams to enable transition towards production development
  • Work with manufacturing team to bring up mass production plants
  • Work in the laboratory/shop environment with analytical equipment (SEM, TGA, FTIR, DSC, BET, resistivity meter, data logger, thermal sensing devices etc.)
  • Read and review technology proceedings and papers to broaden knowledge, project future trends and propose directions in energy storage technology development

What You'll Bring
  • Degree or Equivalent Experience in Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineer, or Industrial Engineering
  • Ability to design and execute new material evaluation and define the correlation between material property and electrode performance
  • Ability to identify root causes and conduct troubleshooting to solve technical problems
  • Strong knowledge of electrochemistry or applied electrochemistry or electrochemical engineering
  • Broad knowledge and R&D experience on energy storage materials required
  • Strong experience in material characterization and analytical technique required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, and detailed documentation skills
  • Skilled at managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously and ability to independently execute those priorities
  • Self-motivated and a self-starter with hands-on skills
  • Team oriented attitude required

    Expected Compensation
    $87,020 - $130,530/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
